HORNCHURCH 3 CHESHUNT 1

A very good performance, and a good run out for some of the players who have not played for some time.

And to cap it all, a sensational goal by Billy Pearce with the last kick of the match.

HORNCHURCH 3 CHESHUNT 1

A strong Hornchurch team had a comfortable win over Cheshunt, and there were outstanding performances, from James Love, Les Thompson and Sam Bantick. Hornchurch took an early lead when SAM BANTICK neatly slotted the ball home past a packed defence after 9 minutes, and visiting keeper Glenn Williamson was kept busy as Hornchurch bombarded the visiting goal, though without being able to add to the scoreline before the interval.

Two minutes into the second half, and AHMED JAHAG, having slipped and apparently missed the opportunity to score, stuck out a leg to stroke the ball home from 15 yards out. Jahag went close again shortly afterwards, whilst Tommy Black almost added a third with a long run from the half way line, with two defenders in close attendance, before Williamson came off his line to narrow the angle and make a good save.

Andy Tomlinson almost scored with a first time shot from 30 yards out, the ball sailing just inches over the bar and landing on the roof of the net, whilst James Love and Reiss Noel both made timely interceptions at the other end when Frankie Bellini almost found a way through. Michael Bowditch made two fine saves, before he was beaten by a well placed shot from BENSON NZURUBA to give Cheshunt a brief opportunity to get back into the game.

Tommy Black then went close, whilst Sam Bantick hit a shot narrowly wide, before, with almost the final kick of the match, Tommy Black weaved a path along the left, and crossed towards the far post where BILLY PEARCE volleyed the ball into the net, for what could be a contender for the goal of the season.
