FF News
The board has announced that Phil Lawler will be the club's new Finance Director. Phil, a keen hillwalker in Spain where he has a second home, is just the right man to get on top of Avenue's finances and will play a key role as the club transitions into a "community benefits" style organisation. Phil is a life-long Avenue supporter and was previously Managing Director of the club, before its acquisition by Bob Blackburn. More recently he has been Company Secretary so he brings strong experience and an element of continuity under new leadership to the new board. He is a retired chartered accountant, who was Finance Director for many years for one of the UK's largest newspaper publishing groups. A fluent Spanish speaker, he was subsequently Director General of a Spanish magazine group, based in Madrid. "I'm looking forward to working with the new management team. It's a very exciting time for Avenue," he said. Due to his previous work with the club, Phil has already been confirmed in the role under the FA's Director and Owner's Test Regulations. Other new appointees selected by owner Gareth Roberts are currently going through the process and it is hoped confirmation of their approval will come through later this month.
