Welling Pay The Penalty At Shots

Both Aldershot Town and Welling United came into the game on the back of bad runs knowing that nothing less than a win would be good enough.

Sadly, for Welling supporters, they had to see their team play well but throw it all away, once again.

Loui Fazakerley returned to replace Barney Williams and Karl Duguid recovered from illness to come in for the suspended Anthony Jeffrey.

Following a promising start, Welling had the first goal efforts. Dominic Vose had a shot blocked and Zach Fagan followed up with an effort that was beaten out unconvincingly by Phil Smith.

There was nothing unconvincing about his next save however, when Vose jinked his way through before firing in a shot towards the far post.

Twenty minutes into the game, Aldershot mustered an effort on the break but Jim Stevenson sliced his effort wide.

Jason Williams was unable to find the target with a header after Reece Harris flicked on Jamal Fyfield's cross.

Smith was called upon to make another good save when Williams dispossessed a dithering defender before finding Harris who powered in a drive.

Totally against the run of play, Aldershot went ahead from their first corner in the 41st minute. It wasn't cleared properly and Stevenson appeared to know little about his header that floated inside the far post.

Nobody could have denied that Vose's equaliser in injury time was fully deserved when he unleashed a shot from the edge of the area that gave Smith no chance.

After Welling had looked to unlock the Aldershot defence early in the second period the hosts came into the game.

Brett Williams found space but fired well over before Jonathan Henly was called upon to make a great save from Stevenson.

Another brilliant run by Vose enabled him to find Karl Duguid whose shot beat Smith but came back off the far post.

Stevenson then shot wide for Aldershot before the game went scrappy with both sides struggling to carve out chances.

Chris Barker was quick to block a flicked effort from substitute Kieron St. Aimie then Ryan Jarvis then had a shot deflected just beyond the far post as the hosts searched for the winner.

It was gifted to them in injury time when a needless foul presented them with a penalty that was struck home unconvincingly by Jarvis.
