Vanarama Conference South club St Albans City have signed midfielder Jake Nicholson.

Nicholson, 22, was originally a product of the West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur youth academies before signing a pro deal at White Hart Lane.

He has also represented England at under-19 level.

He spent time on loan at Finnish club MyPa until July 2011 and made his senior debut for Spurs in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League qualification play-off against Hearts in August 2011.

In June 2013, he was released by Tottenham, subsequently joining Greenock Morton in November 2013 in a move brokered by his friend, English actor Tamer Hassan.

In February 2014, after playing four times for Morton`s senior side, Nicholson joined AFC Wimbledon after impressing on trial.

He scored on his debut a month later in a 4–3 win against Cheltenham Town. However, AFC Wimbledon were placed under investigation for fielding Nicholson while ineligible, and the club were later given a three-point deduction.

In May 2014 it was announced that he had signed a new long-term contract with the Dons.

However, last month he mutually terminated his contract after appearing six times in the first-team, scoring once.
