Prescot Cables are mourning one of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's most loved volunteers Linda Scott.

Saddened officials announced on Sunday that they had lost a "member of the Cables family" after the volunteer passed away on Saturday following a short illness aged 62. She is survived by her daughter Zahara who lives and works in London.

A volunteer at the First Division North club for many years, the club stalwart was well known throughout the league for laying on the hospitality in the boardroom for the officials and management of visiting clubs.

At the end of last season the dedicated fan was presented with the club's Dave Brennan Trophy for her devotion to the cause and described as a "proud mother and a friend to many" in a statement paying tribute to her on the club's website.

Prescot Cables secretary Doug Lace said: "Linda was a volunteer at Prescot Cables for a number of years best known as the lady that made the tea and sandwiches for the visiting officials. Supporting the club in anyway she could, Linda will be sadly missed by all at the club and the visiting officials that knew her. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time."
