Lynch urges Colwyn Bay supporters to stick behind side

Colwyn Bay manager Kevin Lynch has asked fans to stick behind the team through a tough transitional period as he prepares for Saturday’s trip to promotion-chasing Darlington 1883.

The Seagulls suffered another disappointing home defeat on Tuesday, but the manager is asking supporters to reserve judgement on the new look squad until they have had a consistent run of games together.

“Tuesday’s performance was not acceptable and the players have been told that, but we are going through a massive transition right now during a stop-start period with so many games postponed and we need everybody sticking together,” he said.

The Bay have had eight of their last 13 fixtures postponed due to the weather and have seen a big turn over of players in that time.

The manager added: “Any manager will tell you it is very difficult to get any consistency in those circumstances. You can train as much as you like, but nothing beats playing games.

“On Tuesday we had to make five changes from the side that won at Workington, due to players with work commitments and others like John Marsden, Zac Corbett and Joe Newton having left. You are also trying to bed in new players who have not played together before and we have gone over two weeks without a game.

“Mike Lea and Josh Sumner would have played on Tuesday but had to cry off at the last minute due to work and those are the kind of things you are having to deal with on top of everything else.

“But I have faith in the players we have brought in and I’m 100 per cent confident we will turn the corner. We just need a consistent run of games with the same team.”
