Northmore delighted with Seagulls focus

Following Saturday’s 5-5 epic at Hemel Hempstead Town, Weston Super Mare boss Ryan Northmore hailed his side’s mental fortitude in overcoming an early three-goal deficit and Scott Wilson’s second-half sending off to earn a valuable point at Vauxhall Road.

“To come back from 3-0 down shows great focus during a difficult moment in the game”, said Northmore.

“We claim a great point away from home against an impressive team with eyes on the playoffs.”

The Seagulls were three down inside half an hour, and went in at 4-2 at the break, but second-half strikes from Wilson and Dayle Grubb had levelled the scores before the former was sent off for an alleged kick on a Hemel player shortly after the hosts had retaken the lead.

“It was a tremendous game of football. It was blood and thunder throughout.

“There were moments of madness and sheer brilliance”, Northmore asserted.

With a heartbreaking defeat on the cards, the outstanding Joe McClennan, who received a standing ovation from the home fans when eventually removed from affairs, went on a lung-busting run before teeing up Tristan Plummer for the latest of levellers.

“There were some excellent goals scored but the run from Joe and the finish from Tristan was outstanding.

“It was a good way for Tristan to celebrate his birthday”, said the former Weston ‘keeper.

The one sour note for the Seagulls’ boss will be Scott Wilson’s upcoming suspension, but Northmore sounded a firm backing for his number nine.

“Scott Wilson has scored a really important goal today and has been outstanding.

“His sending off is another harsh one against us. The frustration of the continual time wasting has played a part and Scott’s enthusiasm to get the ball back has had a meal made of it.

“Thankfully their 6’5″ centre-half was alright and managed to make a full recovery”, Northmore concluded jokily.
