Hitchin 2 Billericay 5

So what was the difference between today's performance and other recent ones? quite simply the finishing in front of goal. Hat trick for Danny including one penalty and goals for Leon and Jordan. Went three nil up very early in the second half and Hitchin brought it back to 3-2 (we have to defend better from crosses) and we had some nervy moments. Then Danny's hat trick goal settled things with the last goal the icing on the cake.

It was cold though so full marks for the players for warming us up with an excellent performance. No players to pick out in particular although as mentioned Danny's finishing was superb, he also hit the bar when looking for his fourth.

Happy Christmas.

its a funny old game....

dormer was suspended and henty was injured

the team lined up

weaver

graham redders sappleton taylor

hunter davidson black (jones s)

jones a

okita (tolan) hockton

cant remeber the other subs sorry

fairly scrappy opening 10 or 15 but then i thought we began to take control and desrevedly opened the soring with a sublime lob by danny from the touchline about 25 yards out. okita had a shot well saved by their keeper and danny backheeled one just wide from a corner. other than a couple of half chances hitchin didnt create much HT 0-1

reports of "boxing" day early in the home dressing room at HT appeared accurate but it was us who struck hard and fast after the break. A cross from the left seemed to have bypassed everyone but leon hunter arrived at the far post to slot the ball home with his second good finish in consecutive matches.

we piled forward and were awarded a pen after hockton went down between a couple of defenders chasing the rebound from his own header which hit the bar. the pen was duly despatched.

unfortunately we then did our normal trick and defended our 6 yard line rather than half way up the pitch and hitchin scored two headed goals from set pieces. i think redders needs to take the rsponsibility and get the youngsters higher up the pitch. he is a decent talker and this is well within his compass. our goal was under siege at this stage and you really did have the feeling that next goal wins even with us 3-2 up.

black was replaced by steve jones which surprised the visiting support but the substitution of tolan for okita turned out to be a masterstroke. the game settled down at this point with hitchin unable to go the extra mile and as a result of tolan chasing a lost cause the ball fell to danny who slotted the ball home to complete his hat trick. he then had time to rattle the bar with a superb left footed effort from 25 yards before young tolan finished the scoring with a cool finish after a defensive blunder. tolan impressed during his spell on the pitch and appears to have all the attributes to be quite a decent player in time.

praps its a bit unfair to single out individuals on such a good team win but in six years watching football at this level i dont think ive seen a more complete exhibition of "centre forwardship" than what danny produced today..

we have a couple of very tough games over the festive period but if we show this effort and committment we can put up a decent show..well done!!!

A brilliant game showing what the cut, thrust and nervous pooing of pants (when at 3-2) of this level of football.

Goal of the game was Danny's first but they were all good, well taken goals.

I would suggest we go for the Pikies on Boxing Day as we have nowt to lose (not being defeatest here, just a realist) and go for a 3 4 3 formation with Dormer (if available) in the middle of the park with Leon, Black and Steve Jones as wing backs and the same starting forward line as on Saturday. Maybe I'm being a little reckless but hey, I can, I'm not the manager.

Come on you Blues!!!!
