Buildbase FA Vase Second Qualifying Round

Edgware Town 4 Tring Athletic 1

https://twitter.com/EdgwareTownFC

A groundhopper from another Forum was at Siver Jubilee Park last night:

Edgware Town 4 1 Tring Athletic - FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
Prog 20 pages £1.50* - Admission £7.00** - Att.150

* The hosts are normally online issuers, but experimented with 50 printed copies, however they severely underestimated demand, with this end the penultimate copy being purchased an hour before kick off and Steve of West Ealing bagging the last copy.
** The NHS QR Code is now working perfectly on the dog and bone, beeped and brought up the Silver Jubilee Park location when required. Why this was not the case up until a few days ago will remain one of life's mysteries. Paper option available as well.
A quick mention about the SJP pitch, which on entry resembled a badly churned up winter park field of play, where there is little evidence of the colour green. The fact that it is 4g mystified as to it's condition as it is coated with black rubber crumb. It played without issue, but pristine green it did not look.
Given the teams respective positions in SSML Premier, the outcome of this was perhaps not unexpected. The visitors have in place a very young team full of 90 minute effort but prone to defensive errors of the type where goals were needlessly conceded. Shown by the conceding of the first goal which set the tone of the evening with hesitancy between Jonny Potts in the Tring goal and his adjacent defenders in dealing with a long ball up the middle being prominent, Adam Wallace was on hand to take advantage nodding the ball in the direction of Rhys Shirley-Clarke who angled his shot into the gaping net.
You had to feel a degree of sympathy for Potts who made a number of decent saves during the evening to keep the score down but like his defence he was also prone to errors at critical points notably when he initially caught a corner but allowed the ball to squirm free and Omalolu Onabalu was on hand to dispatch the loose ball from close range. Tring though to their credit always maintained a positive approach and halved the deficit with Gareth Terblanche's quick pass forward being swept past the advancing Fraser Siddall by an equally swift low finish from Joe Chott. For the last ten minutes of the first half a Tring leveller would not have been beyond the realms of possibility.
Clear though that the visitors collectively tired during the course of the second half. The contest was effectively ended with the visiting defence failing to clear and a spectacular overhead shot from Shirley-Clarke which was heading for the far corner but was helped on it's way by Wallace. As was the case during the first half, the saves of Potts was keeping the score at a respectable level for the visitors, however his defence in front of him once again failed to deal with a long high ball forward flicked on by Wallace and Ibrahim Nagheeb lobbed over Potts and all the action of the Tring defender on the line could do was help the ball into the net. Last twenty five minutes could have yielded further goals but Potts continued his succession of saves, the hosts playing for the last twenty minutes with a player deficit, having used all three substitutes in a short period, Onabolu limped off. This made no difference whatsoever to the passage of play.
Fully agree with what others from this parish have said about the improvements to the SJP clubhouse, now bright and airy where it was previously dreary and weary. Obviously plenty of pictures and references to Hendon's illustrious past. The table service average sized cup of rosie did arrive at a noticeable £1.50 price tag, with the rider that the table service does have to be paid for.
Easy journey on the Jubilee Line en route, the return journey less straightforward with a lift from the younger of the Hornetini Bros to Kingsbury without the realisation that the Jubilee Line had been suspended. The older Hornetini went in one direction and this end TFL Route 183 took me to Golders Green and then straightforward linking together of LU, DLR and c2c services saw arrival back at The Riverbank at 23.25. From a received text from the aforementioned Hornetini, his journey back to suburban Croydon was equally straightforward.

He has a point doesn't he, it's going to get worse before it gets better with Hendon, Edgware Town and Edgware Town Ladies playing on it:

Arlesey Town 2 Northampton Sileby Rangers 3

I gather Arlesey Town 'criminally' threw, sorry, chucked the tie away this afternoon when in control and leading 2-1 with five minutes remaining with goals from Bruno De Brito from a superb free kick (see clip below) and an overhead kick of Trevor Sinclair proportions from, who else, Herculano Carvalho. Arlesey Town almost went 3-1 up moments before Northampton Sileby Rangers equalised on 85 minutes and with the tie heading for spot kicks the visitors scored again just before the final whistle sounded:

Buildbase FA Vase Second Qualifying Round

Potton United 1 Clapton 3

A groundhopper from another Forum was at the Hutchinson Hollow and gives a very good account, hopefully Clapton won't draw a SSML Club tomorrow in the First Round proper and he attends. Also see the decent 24 page match programme albeit with rather a lot of adverts:

https://issuu.com/pottonunitedfc/docs/potton_vs_clapton

For the benefit of Mr Rhodes, (SSML forum) here is an Anoraks report ;
Potton United 1 Clapton 3
FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round. Att; 75 (H/c)
Admission £6 Programme Online Only
Track and trace via app with paper option available.

A real surprise result this one with the hosts, despite leading early were in the end deservedly beaten. As a neutral, I am not so sure it was just Clapton who beat Potton, but Potton who really beat themselves as they appeared fairly complacent.
Potton took the lead on 5 minutes when a free kick on the right was not cleared and after the initial shot was well charged down, the rebound was rifled in from close range. I felt at that stage Clapton were there for the taking but the hosts never really got going and were fortunate to go in at half time still leading when Clapton were awarded a penalty following a foul. However the home keeper got down well to his right to keep the kick out.
In the second half Potton had a considerable amount of possession but never really troubled the visiting keeper. With about 25 to go Potton had a shout (Mainly from the crowd) for a penalty but the referee was unmoved and Clapton then went straight down the other end and a left wing cross was headed in at the far post. This was whilst they were down to ten men with their skipper sin binned. Within about ten minutes the visitors led. A free kick from inside their own half was pumped forward and the ball was only cleared as far as the edge of the box where it was returned with venom into the top corner. The visiting defence continued to hold firm again although the anticipated onslaught never really happened in terms of chances created and with 8 or so minutes remaining on the break a visiting forward rounded the home keeper and found the empty net.
For the hosts, disappointment, and a feeling that early in they would progress was turned around. On the pitch they, as well as the visitors were an argumentative lot but had one or two players who seemed keen to wind up the opposition instead of concentrating on their own game. The visitors seem a reasonable side but appeared to be lacking a bit of organisation off the pitch, and some belief. The manager appeared to be some young guy who certainly wasn’t present when I saw them in the last round and they named only two outfield subs.
The Hutchinson Hollow is a pleasant enough ground with a decent stand with about 150 seats along one side and a small bit of cover at one end. Sadly this was inhabited by some proper Neanderthals who chose to hurl abuse towards the opponents and the officials, and nobody of a home persuasion seemed too bothered about it. A shame as the opportunity for clubs to attract more supporters currently exists, however in spite of the club staff themselves being a friendly lot, I would not hurry back if I was local.
Finally going back to Clapton, they have won only twice this season, the last round at Brimsdown and today and I have seen both. I am available for further matches for a small fee.

What time is the draw on Monday?

GRS67 - It's sometime before 1.00pm when it will be published, you would have thought it could be heard live somewhere such as Talk Sport Radio or the FA could provide some sort of live stream whilst it is taking place, the blazers really haven't got a clue have they.

Baldock Town v Halstead Town

We seem to have forgotten about the tie this afternoon, disappointingly only the seventh SSML Club to make it through to tomorrow's draw with Colney Heath still to play:

Baldock Town 3 Halstead Town 2

An additional match report, you can really feel Arlesey Town's pain reading it but they only have themselves to blame:

https://www.arleseytownfc.com/vase-defeat-sileby

An incredibly expensive and sole destroying 4 mins of football. A game that was well won by a very deserving winning goal thrown away. An example if one was needed of a game is not won until it’s finished.

Holland v Colney Heath has unfortunately been postponed this afternoon due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the Eastern Counties League Division One South Club's Dulwich Road headquarters, I gather the tie has been re-arranged for next Saturday (17 October)

The rearranged FA Vase Second Qualifying Round tie between Holland FC and Colney Heath will now be played behind closed doors:

Due to huge spike in community transmission of Covid in Clacton, our FA Vase tie at Holland FC is now behind closed doors. Players, coaching team & limited named officials only will be admitted. Please do not travel otherwise.

At least one consolation of the postponement is that an odd and rather arrogant poster on another Forum called Buncranaboy was planning to attend the tie so at least, thankfully, his best laid plans have been scuppered:

Plan A is the Vase tie at Holland v Colney Heath

At least every cloud has a silver lining, Buncranaboy (pictured) from another Forum was planning another attempt to attend the Holland v Colney Heath tie later today:

Another try for the Vase match at Holland vs Colney Heath, postponed due to Covid last weekend

Colney Heath scrape through this afternoon 4-3 on penalties after a hard fought 0-0 stalemate after 90 minutes, they will now entertain New Salamis in the First Round proper on Saturday 31 October looking to avenge their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round defeat at Coles Park:
