Hi Mark.

A small cameo came into my mind and I share it with you in the spirit of brotherhood that embraces all Non League football fans.

The scene is an emergency board meeting at Cressing Road. The new Chairman says to the Secretary, "Bad news Mr Secretary. Culverhouse and Parrat have stepped down and we need to replace them, fast. We need an ex-pro with a proven track record in management. Someone that I have worked with in the past. Roberts is our man. Prepare a contract. I'm going away on business for a couple of days. Go and get him. Don't take no for an answer. Make him an offer he can't refuse. Money no object." "Right-o," says the Secretary, "Leave it with me."

The Secretary is anxious to make a good impression on the recently appointed Chairman and is aware, in the broadest outline, of his past involvement at Enfield, St Albans City and Long Melford. He researches the history in past copies of the Ryman League handbook, starting alphabetically. Enfield. Graham Roberts. Last known telephone number. Contact is made and after appropriate, but brief negotiations, the deal is done, signed, sealed and delivered.

The Secretary telephones the Chairman in a state of high excitement. "Deal done, Mr Chairman. No problemo. It's a lot of money but the contract is signed. I'm preparing a media presentation for your return. This will be huge".

"Excellent work, Mr Secretary", replies the Chairman. "Well done, old chap. This will, indeed, be huge. Gary Roberts did a fine job for me at St Albans City and he will get us out of this mess."
