Salt Lake City

Recommended Posts

Just doing 12 days

Flying into Salt Lake City. Couple of days there.

Greyhound through the desert towards San Francisco. Few days there.

Up to Vegas via Death Valley. Probably about 4 days in Vegas.

Flying home from Vegas.

We're not booking hotels til we get there, so we can kind of come and go as we please.

'Greyhound' - never been on one myself, but they do have a reputation for carryuing the dregs of American society. Loads of people I met in South America said greyhounds were one of the worst forms of transports they'd experienced, and they'd ridden on rickety old buses through the hills of Bolivia. I would have thought helicopter might have been more your style!

going by bus can be a laugh but the trouble with america is that 3 inches on the map is about 8 million miles fly everywhere or hire a fk off car

Been doing a few searches, and Libro's concerns about the Greyhound seem to be backed up by a fair old few people.

Like you say, doing a couple of hours is one thing, but it seems it's 15 hours from Salt Lake to San Francisco on the bus.

Was intending doing it overnight, but fk me, if those nightmare stories are during the day, God only knows what goes on on the night bus. Seems it's full of the lower classes.

Fk it - the flight's only £102 each. 1hr 50mins - that's how it's gonna be for the Zealster!!

Phew - that means I can go into more detail about the stories I've heard. Generally along the lines of 'Don't look at anyone on the bus or you might get stabbed' and 'you might as well throw your luggage away rather than put it on the bus - cos it won't be there when you get off'

Obviously these are the usual traveller exaggerations, and highly unlikely to be the case, but you never know. Long bus trips can actually be quite fun. I once did 24 hours and my mind went into a weird kind of dreamy state for most of it.

when u get to vegas remember the whole point is nothing to do with winning money to keep.. you only win money so you can stay on the roulette table even longer and get even more free beer n fags bought to you by scantily clad women..

make sure you join the 'players club' as well before you check in then u can use it in about half the hotels there everytime you gamble.. its free and you get money off your bill at the end of your stay and you get to use the special fast Q at breakfasy and dinner ..

also charge everything to your room as well , food shows etc, so they can see what you spend as they will knock more off for that ...

dont go to see the big outdoor pirate show at treasure island its fking pony.. go to the stratosphere go up to the top, have a look round do the ride that shoots you up n down then leave the casino is crap and the other 2 rides up there are bollox..

stay in the bellagio or the venetian .. do lie to americans about anything i think they actually prefer it to the truth ..

there is some outlet type store there as well which is great for cheap label clothes trainers sunglasses etc plus when u get a pair of jeans in the states if it says 34 inch waist you can fit at least 38 inches of lard in the there..

smile a lot and ham up the english accent .. whilst boozing invest 20 dollars on bar t.v. poker then try to drink back your investment in free pints or large vods, i think u may get a couple of free meals with your players club card as well.. bring your trunks, there are some great pools there with little flags on em which pop up when u press a button n you get served as you lounge

not to sure on the grand canyon helicoptor trip its great going out but once u get there its not all that nad the flight back is a bit boring till they swoop over the strip.. i suppose it a 'must do once' thing but its expensive
