Cheap Day return from Gravesend to New Barnet (mainline Station) is £9.40. The Mainline station is about 15 minute walk from the ground. Train from Gravesend at 12.05 would get you to New Barnet at 2.01 pm.(Gets to London Bridge 12.49, change to Thameslink train 1pm to Kings Cross, arrives Kings X at 117pm, WAGN train to New Barnet at 141 arriving 201pm)

Adult travelcard from Crayford (in zone 6) is £5.70.

By all means buy a return from Gravesend to Crayford but you'll have to get off at Crayford to get the travelcard - stations outside the travelcard area are not allowed to issue travelcards that are valid for use only within the travelcard area - atoc ruling, not ours!

Personally anybody with a car but wishing to go buy train would be better off going to somewhere like Crayford. Within the travelcard area such things exist as family travelcards, where an adult & child family travelcard costs less than just an adult!

No wonder we're all confused.....

I discovered that last week - Standard Travelcard in London main zones £4.30 - take kids with you (and they can travel for free at weekends on the tube!) and the cost for a Family Travelcard for an adult reduces to £2.80 !! I guess the idea is to encourage families to travel by public transport rather than by car, but all the same, rather daft to say the least !!

And on top of that, there are 2 different cheap day return prices to London as well - from Rochester its £5.30 for travelling (I think) off peak, and £7.05 if travelling on peak time trains for return journey - the guy selling me the ticketslast week spent about 20 minutes selling me the "best" deal and still got it wrong !!
