I wonder if you are able to help me with a little amateur research that I am doing, Mark? One to test your memory:

 

Someone told me that about 10 or 12 years ago, the Chairman of a Non League football club was successfully prosecuted for fraud and went to prison for 4 years. It was something to do with the use of a forged receipt for ground improvements and an application for a grant from the Football Foundation or whatever it was called, apparently.

 

Anyway. My chap can't remember the name of the club concerned although it was one from Essex, he believes. Definitely not The Iron, I hasten to add. My source is generally very good. He was spot on with Hill to the Urchins, Still to the Daggers and Borg to your lot, anyway. [i haven't forgotten that you didn't answer when I asked the odds locally on the appointment to Cressing Road, Mark. Still. It's only money.]

 

Anyway. Where was I? Oh yes. Essex is your neck of the woods, of course, and you have been around for a while, in a manner of speaking. I wonder if this rings any bells with you? I would like to get some more details and the name of the club would, clearly, assist.

10-12 years ago, are you talking about Anton Johnson who was in trouble at Southend Utd, (Chairman) I think he was also owner of a yorkshire team either Doncaster Rovers or Rotherham at the same time, don't quote me on it, it was donkeys years ago, but that neck of the woods, he was in the chair before Vic Jobson took over at the Shrimpers.
