MATCH REPORT

A 17th minute goal from Brimsdown insured the visitors left Ampthill Park this afternoon with all three points to leave the amps with an up hill task now to avoid the drop.

The first half saw the visitors get all eleven men behind the ball, which made it difficult for the amps to find any gaps in the Brimsdown defence. Ampthill in turn gave the ball away far to cheaply on a number of occasions and Brimsdown’s tactics seemed to be working very well which left the amps very frustrated.

On 17th minutes slick Brimsdown passing ended with a lovely through ball that split the amps defence wide open, the Brimsdown player got to the ball before the on rushing amps keeper Timms, rounded him, and saw his weak shot bounce in off the post.

The remainder of the half was very disappointing, both sides rarely looked like scoring or creating any clear cut chances, the amps went in at the break a goal down.

Second Half

Only 5 minutes into the second half and Ampthill lost Martin Don with a thigh strain, so on came Gary Warner who had been out of action for 6 weeks with a broken hand.

Brimsdown started to press higher up the pitch, which left more room for Ampthill to attack, Lawrence Taylor fired a shot wide when in a good position and a Paul Andrews cross/shot had to be tipped over by the Brimsdown keeper, but that was as good as it got for the amps in the final third.

Brimsdown themselves struggled to create any clear cut chances, they saw a couple of long range efforts go over the bar, but that was about it. Brimsdown’s experience over a young Ampthill side in the end lead to them holding out for a 1-0 win in a close game with little chances at either end.
