Good Effort (?)

Recommended Posts

With the Fleet playing well beyond my area ,for leaving after my junior side's Saturday morning training , I utilised the family season tickets and saw The Saints beat a load of irritable Frenchies today .

Unfortunately , and much to my annoyance , the St Marys announcer doesn't recipricate the Fleet's announcer and cant be arsed to give the Conference results so I refer to the BBC website for something near the facts .

Good to see the team somewhere near full strength and giving those salty old Seadogs a run for their lives .

I make that 7-5 on aggregate against a former football league side .

I had to work today and had a spare afternoon. I decided to go down to San- Stonebridge and see how our tennants are getting on.

Well that was a few quid wasted. It really makes you appreciate just how far we have come over the past couple of years, it was awful. Within ten minutes of the game starting a 0 - 0 was the only real result possible.

The only positive was seing that Darren Gowler is now playing for Erith and Belverdere. He doesn't look as fit as he should but he was THE ONLY player who looked capable of performing at a higher level.

Anyway, I had several calls from Geoff at the Scarborough game and he reckoned that we did very well in the first 20 minutes but didn't take our chances. (Heard that before.) They were pretty physical but overall they just shaded it. We are on a big learning curve at the moment, so no need to be too depressed.

Its not all doom and gloom though as he reckoned the Haddock and Chips in Town were excellent!

Well, on balance we unfortunately deserved our defeat. Scarborough's counter-attacking (particularly at the start of the second half) was superb, and at 2-0 and then 3-1 down things looked pretty ominous. Our long ball tactics for large sections of the second half didn't help matters, and to be honest, Bentley's goal, while good, came from nowhere, much like Jimmy's in the first half.

Nonetheless, it further proves that we very rarely get thrashed in this league and even manage to run teams close when playing poorly.

Morecambe will be tough next week, but after that, it's Kettering at home, with Forest Green at home to follow two weeks later - games that we really must win.

The Red Army were up against it then and they're up against it now, but we will prevail!
