The Story so far..

Recommended Posts

We’re 19 games into our season now (all competitions) and here’s a comparison to last season.

............. W---D---L………Goals/F……Goals/A….. League position

2006/7-----7----7---5……….. 25…………….23 ……..11th after 12

2005/6-----7----6---6………...30…………….26……....8th after 14

At this stage both seasons we were out of FA Cup and still in the Trophy

If you add the pre season EFL Final to both seasons, the current seasons stats further improve.

What do we think?

Quite amazing really, as the stats are almost the same! However, i feel that we are improving, and unlike the beginning of the season we are starting to put the ball in the net much more consistently, (aside Slough) which we all wish we could play again. I honestly think the football is better and defensively we are tighter (which is where all successful teams build from). Overall then, spluttering start to season in the early games but imo building upto (hopefully) a good middle section, and then who knows...

Although this season has gone in fits and starts, our stats only tell part of the story. Quite a few teams have had the same problem which has led to the gap between 12th position and 2nd to be quite small. A couple of good results (wins) puts us in the mix.

Again, the stats don't tell the whole story as our performances have been better in comparison to last season with the exception that we struggled to score goals this season. Last season we were performing in fits and starts all the way until the New Year...one would like to think that we have turned our "corner" this season and start being more consistant and succesful.

Our squad is much stronger than this time last year, a typical bench last season was: Bourne, Lay, Simmons Poole, Dobson.

To have the likes of Danny Hill and Leon Hunter on the bench, and this with Jamie Dormer and Billy Mac not available, (to name just four) imo, speaks volumes.

With no guaranteed starting places and the Manager picking on merit, we can only get stronger.

I agree that our squad is much stronger now than at this stage last season. We'll probably (hopefully) feel the benefit of this even more in the coming months as other sides may struggle when injuries and suspensions kick in.

To counter that though the league does seem to be stronger this season with probably at least a dozen sides fancying themselves for at least a play-off place.

Boretree amply demonstrated the merits of consistency last season and that is something that we have yet to achieve this season, however the signs are there that it is beginning to come together now.

Onwards and upwards...

Yes and you have done well, better then I expected. Injuries to key players could sort the pack out towards the end of a long season.....

Excellent result on Monday against Aylesbury, but I did say to Gazza you would turn them over.

I find the flooded pitch senario all abit strange though?

I still think we need to learn to 'win ugly' more often, and when we come up against teams that dont allow us to play our passing game we need a plan B rather than the hopeful punt up field.

I think sometimes this season hasnt felt as good due to the lack of goals but that seems to be changing too. A play off place is more than realistic and should be helped further this season but the strength of the bench.
