We won but made hard work of it. The referee though was a disgrace. A complete muppet who didn't control the game and made some diabolical decisions. Why did Dobbo get sent off? How many free kicks did he not give to Canvey?

The guy was terrible and I've never felt so angry about a ref.

Take nothing away from Hayes. They were probably the better side in the second half and Danny Potter had to make some excellent saves.
Their forward line was very lively and gave us problems all game. Our defence and midfield didn't seem at the races today.

In the end it was Lee Boylan who gave us the points turning in a great Junior McDougald pass for the first after a few minutes and then heading home a Dave Theobald flick on to put us 2-1 ahead.

In between Hayes scored an equaliser after a neat passing move and looked a decent outfit. They were unlucky not to get anything out of the game.

Nevertheless like the Hendon game, Canvey battled and ground out a result, a vast difference to previous seasons. Ollie Berquez battled hard and Duffers produced a tenacious performance.

Well done as well to the Yellow Army who made a lot of noise today. A bit quiet in the second half as Hayes piled on the pressure but great noise in the last five minutes or so.

So we go even further clear with Carshalton and Thurrock drawing and Grays losing.

Unfortunately what was a battling result was ruined by a terrible refereeing performance. I feel Hayes fans will probably agree with me.

Attendance of 698, our highest this season. At last the people of Canvey are getting behind their team!

No didn't go today, I'm only 16 <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> but when i get a car i'm going every match. Well anyways back to the football, sounds like a shame about the ref, we have been really poor recently but we must have found some team spirit today to give you a decent fight. Thanks for the scorer lads

Yeah, you played well today. Certainly one of the better sides I've seen at Park Lane this season.

A few of your supporters were quite energetic in the bar before the game, having a good old sing song. Thought it was quite funny.

agreed the ref was awful, although our back four were not singing off the same song sheet in the first half,i don think sometimes Midgley is not defensive minded and if a wing back is against him he looks alittle lost..But its 3 points and we haven't played well and still won which is the main thing. But i would like tio see a improvement on saturday in the Cup..

Who was the ref?
I'll check if he's been to Hornchurch if you tell me.

Mr Meiliack was his name. Even worse than Mr Murfitt or Mr muppet as I call him!

Doesn't ring a bell...but I'll check the programmes.
Have you lot had that really tiny linesman yet?
[sorry assistant, Big JR doesn't like "lino"!]

He was smaller than our Johnny Keeling.
Someone in our crowd shouted out to Kilo "What's it like not being the smallest bloke on the pitch" Kilo laughed!
