................Did anyone watch "Real Bad Girls" on I.T.V. last night ?

The continuing story of H.M.P. Bullwood. A young womans prison.

Now ! You all know me ! A firm believer in punishment to fit the crime etc. etc.

Last night's episode was devoted to Linda, a 30's something lady who clearly, society had decided the best thing to do, was 'lose her' ! Sentenced to Life for arson (5 counts +).

She had been brain damaged at birth and the good old system had washed it's hands of her. In and out of mental intitutions and eventually classified as 'Non-treatable', so stuck in prison.

She obviously was clearly disturbed and seemed, on her good days, a lovely person.

Eventually shipped from H.M.P. Bullwood to H.M.P. New Hall, where she was found dead in her cell 3 weeks later - Suicide.

If ever a programme was made to show the inadequacies of this country, then this programme was the one.

My heart goes out to her family !

I did see a bit of it JR and it was quite disturbing the way she was treated, I eventually switched over though when I realised there wasn't any lesbianism going to be shown.

You missed a very sad ending, Nige !

As I said - I'm all for punishment, but this was a case of the State going mad !

Apparently, there are over 1,000 women in our prisons who suffer from SEVERE mental illnesses !

I knew how it was gonna end JR because they told you at the beginning she committed suicide.
It was quite depressing I agree.

Exactly BJR, some do-gooder decides that Mental hospitals are no good - "Care in the Community " is MUCH better for them - (how dare you suggest cheaper!)

So we end up with loads of people who should really be in a secure hospital being dumped on their families, who can't cope however much they want to, the police who definitely feel it isn't their job, and the prisons, who cannot provide a proper environment. Then there's the social workers.....

Personally if we have to pay a few more taxes, I would rather the money was going to look after really genuine cases like this than employing another "Home Composting Specialist" - which was shown as last week's non-job of the week on which we are wasting money!

What's the difference between a politician and a pile of sh*t?

I couldn't see one, either...
