The Fleet in Fine Voice

Recommended Posts

Dear Fans of myself & the ‘Fleet

Just so I can swell my ego a tad more. I suggested a couple of little numbers on the old board towards the end of the season & low & behold I heard 2 of them being sung at Bedford & Margate: 1. the ‘Dad’s Army’ re-mix; 2. ‘Farewell to the Ryman League.’

Please tell me it was my influence & not sheer coincidence which led to these fine creations being heard.

Like the red flag one Jimmy: suits my left of centre credentials - and it's a 'new' melody for us. (Not that that's hard!)

Not sure about 'Stonebridge Road to Conference' bit, though. I think we need either 2 grounds or 2 levels. Perhaps some other lyrically minded people out there can make suggestions re. tightening it up?

The red flag one was first heard at Braintree and later on in the social club after Bedford. It's not entirely new, just that only a few people picked up on it.

"From the Ryman League to the Conference" is probably best, but grounds suit it better.

"From the McCain to Huish Park" (Scarborough to Yeovil, the two extreme venues) possibly?

or "From Stonebridge Road to...(any random ground that is either a.) quite far away or b.) was the scene of some significant acheivement by the club/fans)".

PS And thanks to Essy. I'm sure somebody will think of a suitable ground to pair with Stonebridge Road. The song probably didn't take off at the end of last season because it's a bit more 'complex' than our attempts of old. I think an off pitch (so to speak) target for next season has to be to improve the variety and sophistication of our vocal repetoire. <img src="http://www.longdog.org.uk/smilies/sleepy.gif" alt=" - " />

Many thanks to Wobbly Wayne for the appreciative message.

Rest assured, my creativity will be bearing fruit, during next season and suggestions for choral activity posted here. It helps to have inspiration for one's material & nothing provides this like a team against whom one has a well justified grudge, especially if their fans or manager are particularly obnoxious. Early postings on our old board, by their supporters, were suggesting Hereford for this role, or given their manager's excesses, so well documented in the NLP, Chester.

Probably have to wait until the season gets underway.

How about:

"You can stick your yellow up your [****!!****]"

and

"Beast Beast Beast Beast"

or

"He's thick, he's fat, he talks like a twat - Jeff King, Jeff King"

alternatively

"Flying high up in the sky, we'll keep the red flag flying high, from Stonebridge Road to Conference, we'll keep the red flag flying high"

plus

"Stonebridge Road my Lord, Stonebridge Road, Stonebridge Road my Lord, Stonebridge Road, Stonebridge Road my Lord, Stonebridge Road, Oh Lord Stonebridge Road"
