Billericay v Harrow

GazzaBTFC

Recommended Posts

If form is anything to go by (and looking at the past couple of results in the league, it isn't), we should be favorites to bag all three points but Harrow are one of our "devils in disguise" teams. We've walked out on to the park before against them, dead certs and ended up either sharing the spoils or giving a silly goal away and coming out empty handed. But, new season and all that. If we apply ourselves as we did against Hendon in the first half, well, there ain't too many teams that can live with us.

Team selection:

Buckfield

Marron, Macca, Cole (if fit), Dumas

BWG, Hunter, Shave, Wareham

Fergie, Bricknall.

Subs: Flack, Burbs, Henry, Clarey (Heffer if fit), Worster

I know we don't like to "dig" players out but another word about Neil Marron. IMO Marron has been a revelation as right back. He still has a lot to learn but every game he grows in stature. When it was suggested that he could cover the position, it was just that...cover. IMO, because he isn't familiar with the position, he plays it simple and easy. No flashy bits. He has taken the "bull by the horns" and is playing as if he wants the position. In the way that he keeps it simple suggests that he is an intelligent player but his work rate is exemplary. Buckfield played with confiedence on Tuesday and did very well...I hope he continues. he commanded his area and made some stunning saves. I would like to start with Henry (to rest Paul Shave) but I think Harrow will have some lumps and Shavesy is our only arial threat in midfield. There maybe some arguement to play Henry and start with Burbs but that could be too risky and the old adage "don't change a winning team" (fair enough, I've put Tim Cole in (if fit)...There is an over riding rule to this adage which is "Play your best available players").

Score line...I think if we keep it tight we'll win it...but only by an odd goal...say 1-0 or 2-1. It would be nice to keep another clean sheet.

Hey, aren't I the cautious one!!!

I am interested in what people think of Marc Cleary. Maidstone fans seemed to be shocked he was released. He has stepped in to cover for our injuries and I feel he has played well, but,as I tend to stand behind the goal we are attacking,I probably do not have a good view of his defensive skills. I ask because in Gazza's thoughtful note he would not be in the 16 if Cole and Heffer were fit.

I think the lad has done well but has been over shadowed a bit by Neil Marron's performance as right back. Considering that it's not our first choice defence, everyone in the back four have had to do a certain amount of growing. A good defence takes time to click into place and they are beginning to "click".

I only put Clarey as a sub because of experience and would take the opportunity to give the lad a rest if Tim Cole is fit. But for reasons all ready mentioned, I would do the same with Paul Shave...

Hey, this manager lark is a doddle...giss a job

(only joking).

We have two midfielders that can hold the ball, trouble is they're both injured! I'd play Henry instead of Shave and I'd also get Hunter to push on more like he used to, far more effective and is capable of pitching in with a few goals. As for Cleary, bit of a mixed bag so far IMO. Good followed by bad, but I beleive he has been out for a while with injury, maybe this has had an effect. I've not seen him, but I'd be tempted to play this Duncan and give Clarey a rest. Neil Marron has been superb in the last two games, but is only keeping the right back berth warm for when Macca can return there. What he has done IMO, is put himself way ahead of Semanshia in the pecking order. Ferguson and Bricknell seems a good partnership so far, I personally wouldn't change it.

If it's the same Duncan then he played for the reserves on Wednesday night. Impressive debut but on a par with Cleary. I think Cleary deserves a chance to play with one of the more experienced centre backs. Agree with Ryan on the right back, can't fault Marron's performances but Macca ia No 1 right back. Not sure Henry did enough on Wednesday to deserve a start so I think it's no change in mid field.

I think Clarey has been a bit unfortunate in that it would have been much better for him to have played alongside either Heffer or Cole rather than Macca who has played almost exclusively at full back over the last few years.

I'm not sure how much you can read into reserve games but I thought that Duncan looked a better footballer whereas Clarey seems more of an "old school" type.

Unless our injury problems are worse than we think, you would think that it would have to be one or t'other from Clarey or Duncan.

Does anyone know how old Duncan is?
