On the back of what has happerned to Kewshi, Surely we must take steps now to secure West on a contract, having watched him play in the FA Youth Cup this season he clearly has the ability to play at a much higher level than the conference.

im sure he is not the only one, many players have caught my eye,

But west is a must

A very good point, and in more ways than one. Obviously there's the Kwesi situation; it'd be a shame to lose the likes of West, Cole, Nowotny and Callander, the ones with real potential, and get nothing at all in return.

Also, with the first team looking despondent, I think Daish should take a gamble on some of the better PASE players. What they will lack in experience, they could make up for in raw passion and enthusiasm. Half of the team did not look interested yesterday- put a 17-18 year old on roughly

If you had taken the time to read the club's statement before it was removed you would have noticed that the club had offered Appiah a contract but he hadn't signed it. Perhaps Liam should have put a gun to his head and assured him that either his signature or his brains would be on the contact in the next 30 seconds.

You are a twat DH,, so you have to wait for a player to score a goal before he gets offered a contract. Surley a one year deal at the start of the season would not be to much to ask for. Had he not trained in pre season ! if hes in the budget on crap money on a non contract, surley a one year deal on crap money is not going to make a blind bit of diference. And it would have stopped fry.. Can you blame Kwesi for going, if your not on a deal to tie you to the club, you make a great impact against woking get noticed by others from a higher league, of course he is going to listern to the other parties. a 1 year deal when they were being handed out at the start of the season would not have hurt. Must have made him feel real good every one else getting a deal and not him.

Sorry who is the twat?

Its not a case of offering all our decent youngster year long deals I'm afraid as the club simply cannot afford to do it. In an ideal world they would all be on contracts as soon as they were legally allowed to be!

This is non-league football not Premiership!!!!!

Appiah was nothing more than a very promising youngster at the start of the season as was Akinde the year before.

All the club can hope for is that the kids display a tad of loyalty to the club that gave them their break.

As soon as it became apparent that Appiah could make the grade they offered him a deal and thats the way that it works at this level. If you want to "support" a club that can tie kids into contracts with no guarantee of success then can I humbly suggest you start looking elsewhere.

You cant odds some oafish character like Fry getting himself involved. I'm afraid, he has done it before and I guess he will do it again. Did you read the article in the papers over the weekend where 'Arry Redknapp revealed that Fry had done something similar to try to get hold of Mark Newsom (a former Fleet man dontcha know) years ago!

Personally I would like to see a straight fight between Liam and Fry with the winner taking all!

Lets just hope the FA can do something to stop bigger clubs poaching like this in the future but my guess is that they dont give a toss.

As an aside, their is a great book detailing a year in the life of Rochdale from a few years back. In that they point out that the "Fantastic Manchester Utd Youth teams" are a bit of a con. Basically the club poaches all of the decent talent in the North West from the smaller league clubs when they are 13-14 years of age and then put them in their own youth programme. If they can do it then someone like Fry is going to do likewise with people like Appiah.

"Appiah was nothing more than a very promising youngster at the start of the season as was Akinde the year before."

Have to correct you Andy Y , Akinde was still on the P.a.s.e scheme when he was offered a 2 year deal, and had shown his worth with the loan spell at Whitstable, prior to his 1st team debut mid season, Kwesi on the other hand had completed the P.a.s.e scheme and was by general agreement among the coaching staff the next player to make the step up to 1st team duty, once the season finished, in my opinion Kwesi should have been given the season long deal that would have safeguarded the clubs 2 year investment.

You are correct that the club cannot give every youth team player a paid contract, but in Kwesi's case he ceased to be a youth team player in May and after the season he had and with the coaching staff's glowing reports he may well have been expecting the chat with Liam and the handshake and pen moment.

Add to this, all manner of half arsed trialist's that appeared from the woodwork and all picked for pre season friendlies ahead of him and you see the self inflicted situation that we are now bleating to the F.A about, Good luck to Kwesi as he did'nt get what he deserved here.
