Police have confirmed that a Blackburn Rovers fan who was critically injured during the Premier League game at Stoke on Saturday has died.

The Rovers supporter was found unconscious in the concourse area of the Britannia Stadium just after the half-time interval.

He was treated at the scene for head injuries and cardiac arrest.

The man, 30, was rushed to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire but he died just before 2am on Sunday morning.

A police spokesman said: "A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at 1.55am this morning at University Hospital North Staffordshire.

"The circumstances are being fully investigated and a 25-year-old man remains in custody and is helping police with their inquiries."

A statement on Blackburn's website said the man was among a 1,300-strong Rovers following in the South Stand.

Chief Inspector Adrian Robert, match commander at the game which Stoke won 3-0, said no Stoke fans were involved in the incident.
