Reading Town

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the run down on Reading Town, pretty much spot on all round. Did not help us enough, however, as we went down 2-1, so Hanworth have the dubious pleasure of a Thursday night trip down there for the final. Best of luck to them anyway. I can't add too much to what was said with regard to the journey, the area and the ground. They are a decent side and do play with a high tempo, and there was a point at 1-1 when they started to lose it a bit with a few choice challenges - one of which resulted in a sending off. At that point we looked set to go on and win it but, unfortunately, one of our lads who was already on a booking reacted to another challenge and got a second yellow. Once they scored the game opened up and was end to end and it could have gone 3-1 or 2-2. We may have had the edge in extra time if we had forced it, as they had a couple of walking wounded, but they held out and to be fair deserved it overall. If it helps, they played a very effective 3-5-2 and looked comfortable until we combated that with a 4-3-3 and the game started to turn our way. Good banter in the crowd and the people were very accomodating as suggested. It was also nice - despite the defeat - to visit another ground and come across a side from another league. Also, one of their league referess was in charge as you would expect, and the different style of refereeing was noticeable. It's not a criticism of him, just that certain things that we expected free kicks for did not happen but others did, and our players felt a bit aggrieved at times whereas they tended to accept the decisions. In fairness, the big moments with regard to the red cards were both correct. As I said, they probably deserved the victory and they are a good side, so Hanworth will need to be on it this Thursday, but let's hope they can win it for the CCL. Finally, the showers do flood really badly and virtually cover 60% of the changing room. We were able to get the kit bags outside, but it was a reasonably dry and bright period of the day, not around 10pm on a Thursday. I would suggest a piece of 4x2 about the size of a normal door plus a bit would be an idea, but even this may not do the job. Good luck anyway and thanks everyone for a really competitive season all round, let's hope for more next time!

Hope we can win it Thursday, nightmare trip for us but a bit of silverware to end this long old season would be nice. Come on the Villains !!

Seems as if RTFC grabbed the Consolation Tin Pot then 4-1 @ Scours last night - decent crowd for them too - 122.

Not sure they'll be that overjoyed after the season of near-misses they've had - more of a relief to have something on the Honours Board, after what looked like a promising run-in.

I was going to post a link to the Reading P!sts report BUT all they've got so far is a sentence re goalscorers and a photo of Millsy & Hughes holding the Cup - looks like a big one - the Cup I mean! :ignore:

They promise a fuller report next week.

S'pose they (RTFC) deserve something for persistence - especially following two awful Cup Final results already this season (0-5 - following a 3-0 1st leg win & 2-6) and a defeat in another semi.

... still 'buy enough tickets and you might win the lottery' - look at Fleet Town - they enter every cup going and have ended this season with three Trophies: Aldersh!t Senior, Basingstoke Senior and North Hants - bet they'd willingly exchange them for a place in the Isthmian Prem though?
