FF News
NWCFL club St Helens Town are delighted to confirm the appointment of Alan Gillespie and Nick Matthews as the club’s First Team Joint-Managers Both are well known to the club with Alan having taken a succession of management positions across the club’s Youth and Reserves teams before taking charge of the highly successful Under 21 last season which culminated in lifting the Cheshire FA Under 21s League title. Nick has also been with the club for some time stepping up from First Team coach under Ian Granite to Assistant Manager alongside Ian Price. Nick also managed the last season’s U17s team who had a strong campaign in the South Lancashire Counties League Youth Division and reached the final of the Wilf Hickson Memorial Cup, losing our narrowly to Southport U17s 2-3 in the final. Club Chairman John McKiernan said, ‘I’d like to thank the significant number of candidates who applied for the position of manager and those that attended Langtree Park for interview last night. ‘The committee agreed unanimously that a joint appointment on this occasion was a natural course of action with both Alan and Nick bringing complimentary skill-sets and experience to the role. ‘They are both enthusiastic about working with us in taking the club forward and building a team based long term on player development through the youth and U21s set-up but both have a good understanding of the rigours of North West Counties League Football and will be recruiting accordingly. He added, ‘Last season proved to be a difficult one for the First Team but there’s plenty to be positive about. Relegation was disappointing but something we can recover from and the manner in which we undertake this will be led by the new management in conjunction with the committee.
