Harvey happy to have Wroe on board again

Still unbeaten since taking over in November, FC Halifax Town manager Jim Harvey is delighted that Nicky Wroe has opted to return to The Shay until the end of the season.

Harvey has yet to taste defeat in his nine games in charge, and Wroe has been a star performer in that unbeaten spell. After he left Notts County on Friday, the midfielder was quick to sign permanently with The Shaymen. Town’s boss told the official website that he is delighted the team doesn’t need to change.

“The way things are at the moment, the last few weeks have gone really well and the team have come together as a group and looked very comfortable. Nicky has very much been a big part of that, being the captain. We didn’t want to break that up, so the fact that he has come back and will be here until the end of the season means we won’t have to break it all up and can carry on in the same vein. It is great to have him on board, and the experience, as it has done, will be invaluable to us in the coming months to make sure we can stay in the league.”

Town were due to host Barrow in the FA Trophy on Saturday, but a frozen pitch means that match is now set to take place on Tuesday night. With the forecast not promising, Harvey insists that there isn’t much to change in terms of match preparation.

“I don’t know if the game will be on because the forecast is so bad until Wednesday so we will have to see. There’s not a lot we can change about the preparation; we will just have to see on Tuesday.”

Having taken the team up to 19th in the Vanarama National League, the former Morecambe and Forest Green boss has transformed a side who earlier this season were 10 points from safety. Unsurprisingly, Harvey is full of praise for his players as he looks to continue the unbeaten streak.

“We’ve got a team who are playing extremely well together. They’ve all settled into their roles and look comfortable with the job they’ve been asked to do. With that in mind, Nicky’s been very much a part of that. And you know, we can go from strength to strength and try and maintain the form that we’ve been showing. From that point of view, it will be an unchanged situation which at the moment, is very encouraging for everybody.”

Despite this however, Harvey is realistic about the task at hand, and his aims haven’t changed since the first day he took over from Darren Kelly.

“The aim stays the same as when I took over, make no mistake about that. We’ve had a terrific run, but we have a long way to go yet. The other teams who are down here, they will improve as the season goes on and start to pick up points. We need to make sure that come the last month of the season, we can be clear of relegation and that is certainly what the focus is until we do achieve that.”
