THE EMIRATES FA CUP Preliminary Round

1-1 Risborough Rangers v Ascot United Attendance: 165

It's him I'm afraid, the groundhopper Pineswoodste from another Forum who goes on just a bit, he was at Horsenden Lane yesterday:

The intention was a 2nd attempt to visit Risborough Rangers as last year our trip was aborted at Marylebone Station due to heavy rain when the game was postponed. I wasn’t convinced about going today with heavy rain forecast again. So I drove my dad to Colchester railway station & we purchased a London day ticket & at Marylebone would decide. The rain started while we were at Marylebone but was a bit stop/start so we bought a day return ticket to Princes Risborough. We had a wander to Church Road market which we'll visit for longer in the future.
On arrival at Princes Risborough it was surprisingly dry but there were brief light showers on/off for the remainder of the day. As usual it was cloudy & there was a bit of a breeze at times. Sometimes it even felt mildish. We walked into the small town centre then back to the edge of town ground close to the station as the crow flies.
Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round
Risborough Rangers 1 (59, red 4)
Ascot Utd 1 (55 pen)
KO: 15:00 Att: 175 announced (my h/c was 173) Cost: £7 & Concessions £4 both including A4 sheet folded in half as a programme.
Venue: B.E.P Stadium, Horsenden Lane, Princes Risborough
3 floodlight poles each side. The main side is slightly banked & at the top it’s railed & has a hardstanding path. Part of one half & passing half-way line is the covered stand with a step then 2 rows of red covered seats with a gap on the half-way line. Behind the white walls is the clubhouse & changing rooms. Next to this is a small covered area with a step. The remainder has a low white wall with a car park behind & there’s also floodlit tennis courts. The other 3 sides have red wooden boards & some advert boards & you could argue there’s no h/s due to the near goal just having the cricket pitch where a game was taking place today. In the corner you could see trains close to the station. The other 2 areas have various vegetation & dirt on the paths. Behind the far goal behind the path is a grass area & then a lot of trees which are also down the other side. Also behind the goal to one side is a small wooden bit of cover partially painted red. The other side close to the half-way line has another small covered area partially painted in red with the central area having decking & a wooden bench. This side has vegetation and a stream before the trees. Behind are 2 large industrial units. The ground has a lived in feel to it.
Match: Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division (v) Combined Counties League Premier Division North
Report: ASC player committed a foul (yellow card) but RIS player kicked out (red card). ASC had a free kick & a header went just wide. A shot went wide on 20 mins. On 34 mins RIS had their only effort on goal in the 1st half, a free header from a corner going wide. A couple of minutes later ASC had a shot well saved & the rebound went just over the bar. Shots 1-6. I felt ASC should’ve done a bit more playing against 10 men.
H/t lasted under 17 mins. Even 2nd half as ASC were denied by the gk before being awarded a penalty for handball The gk got hands to the ball but the penalty was hit well & it appeared ASC would go on to win the game. Surprisingly RIS equalised when a corner was headed in & again unmarked. The game became end to end for a while & RIS had a free kick close to the half-way line & the gk scrambled back to push the effort over the bar. On 87 mins RIS had a shot saved. Shots 6-7.
The announcer gave MOTM to the 10 RIS players & really I’d suggest they must be favourites for Tuesday’s replay. ASC surely had their chance today playing against 10 men for virtually all the game.
The sun even made an appearance later in the evening as we made our way home. Seemed a bit strange wearing the mask for the 1st time for quite a while most of the time on the underground.
