Breaking club news….

Recommended Posts

Today there have now been three club news stories announced on Twitter:

1. Dan Lincoln leaving

2. Josh Jackman staying

3. A fans forum at Arbour Park on 8th May

BUT, with the new app with push notifications wouldn’t it have been better to make these announcements on the app before Twitter?

Item 2 was definitely released on the app first.

The fans forum was announced the other day I think as I read it somewhere over the weekend.

Josh's signing came as a notification from the fanbase app.

I wouldn't expect a notification of a player leaving as that's not exactly positive news to encourage people to buy season tickets.

If so, I haven’t got my app set up properly yet then

I went on and got the marketing thing ticked Curtis. Went into my profile and marketing preferences and turned on both Fanbase and Slough Town. Got the Josh one straight through.

Believe it or not, some Slough fans don't have access to any "apps".

Well I don't anyway.

I'm sure the club would say that they are  against any type of discriminatory action against any of its fans, the verb "discriminate" in my dictionary means to show bias against, single out, treat as inferior, treat differently.

In  my book people like me who don't have smartphones are definitely being "discriminated" against by the club when it comes to buying a season ticket.

What else would you call it when I'm not able to buy a season ticket at the same price that the vast majority of fans are ?

Appreciate your point HR, but seems possibly a bit dramatic.

I'm nothing but a fan with the club, but I have to ask, how do you post on here? My assumption is via computer / laptop etc, ergo, why not just do your season ticket on that device? I did all of the 6 people I sort out on my computer through the renewal email I got. Didn't buy anything on the app at all and then downloaded it to my phone as a simple way for the future (but didn't need to).

Alternatively, surely contacting the club as a loyal fan, they wouldn't turn you away?

An OFCOM report in 2022 said 94% of the UK population had access to apps (so probably even higher now).

But like you there probably are some other Slough fans that don’t & I’m sure the club will have alternative arrangements for you.

Have you asked them?

Hi SloughFlyer. Hi Curtis.

Many thanks for your responses.

Yes SloughFlyer, you are right in that it seems a bit dramatic.

I wasn't intending to make any comments on here about the situation re. season tickets, but I have been rather miffed about things since the details were announced, and then  when I started reading talk on here that people were thinking it would be better to put  announcements first up on these flamin' apps, the red mist descended ! 😖

SloughFlyer, I post on here using my P.C., but with my admittedly limited knowledge of computers I'm not aware how I could download a "digital" season ticket on a device I could take to the ground other than a Smartphone?

If there is something else that I could use I would be very  happy to find out !

Curtis, I have contacted the club about my  situation, and I got a very polite and detailed reply from SloughTown FC Clubshop.

In my query to them I mentioned that at the New Year the club had something called a "mini-saver 10 game pass", which allowed fans to download and print a  "voucher" for free at home, which they could then take to the turnstiles to gain access to all league games from then until the end of the season.

Something like that would be ideal for fans in my situation, I said.

The reply I received was, as I previously stated, polite and detailed , but basically said that this is the way things are done now  and there is nothing they intend to do about it.

One of the sentences they wrote to me  was

" While we encourage embracing new technologies, we also want to ensure that all fans feel included."

Eh ?

I can assure you that this fan doesn't feel included by these new technologies.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest to be thought of as an old dinosaur, and I know I am fighting a losing battle against the tsunami of modern tech.

I'm just a bit miffed, that's all ! 😀

Unless I’ve missed can I ask why you’re against embracing technology? You can still buy a very basic smartphone that’ll be easy to understand and wouldn’t cost much. Plus you never know one day it might come in extremely useful even life saving?

HR - no worries😂.

As for the "digital" season tickets, I had a physical card season ticket picked up at the 1st game of the season. I assume they will be doing this again.

Having said this, if it is a "digital" version, my tickets have a QR code on them and I'm 100% certain if you printed it, it would work on the scanner they have at the turnstile much as the vouchers did on the mini saver.

Not sure if that helps, but I'm more than happy to help if you get stuck, just PM me👍

A physical card cost £7 I believe

Hi Glen

No, you haven't missed anything as to why I am so anti-smartphone's, and your suggestion about getting a cheap, basic model is very kind and thoughtful.

I reluctantly have an exceedingly cheap and very basic dumbphone on which I can text and make calls on, but I can honestly say that I have no intention of ever owning a smartphone.

Why am I so anti smartphone's ?

Phew, that would be a long story Glen, and it's  probably best if I don't go into my reasons on here. 😄

Surely someone at the club can help you??

Well Ian, I contacted the club about this as I said previously, and didn't get anywhere, so no luck so far !

And thanks SloughFlyer for your offer of help, but as you realised later my issue is that to get a physical season ticket card I have to pay more money for it, and I don't see why I should have to.

I always have been and always will be a stubborn so and so.

Too late for me to change now ! 🤣

Fair enough HR hopefully you’ll find a workable solution.

The correct thing would be for the club to repay any extra charge you incur imo

I was surprised to read about the extra charge for the physical membership card as I’m sure there hasn’t been an additional charge previously?

Could be to try to get away from using plastic.

Am I correct in saying the meeting starts at 7pm tomorrow the 8th May.
