Admission £8/5, Attendance 108 & 1 dog, Programme £2, Tea £1 - although a free hot drink voucher is included when a progamme is purchased.
A new tick for me, Hoddesdon is in Hertfordshire and is just East of the A10. Plenty of on street parking is available, and the football ground adjoins the cricket pitch. There is a rather (tired looking) artificial surface junior pitch and some cricket nets by the tea bar, which is on the end of the building housing the bar. The toilet block is recently refurbished, it has very clean facilities with hot running water from the taps - the fact that I am noting this just shows how often it is cold running water at some grounds. The two dug outs are placed far enough apart for the covered standing, and a relatively new looking 50 seater stand to sit between them, with the home dugout level with the penalty spot. The sun was blazing into my eyes whilst I was sat in the new stand, but when I got up and walked around the south goal, it was marekedly colder. There was a large main stand on the opposite touchline.
The programme is worthy of a (comprehensive) note, a bumper 68 pages, a few glossy adverts and a LOT of content. Including 2021-22 end of season results for the Essex Senior League (where Hoddesdon played last season). Current league tables, maps and addresses for all 3 of this year's Spartan Leagues, and also the same information for the Herts Senior County League Premier (where the Hoddesdon Town Reserves play). There were so many different League tables printed in there (also a current form table for the most recent 6 games in the Spartan Premier), that I had trouble finding the current Spartan Premier table, a nice problem to have. A page comparing their final League standings printed in a Head to head style with Stotfold, from 1984 onwards, I could go on.
Stotfold opened the scoring at 3 minutes, and had a lot of the possession throughout the game. A second yellow card was awarded to a Stotfold player, which meant the red card also appeared, although I didn't see the actual indiscretion, it looked a bit like shirt tugging to me. Hoddesdon didn't really seem to take advantage of their 1 man advantage, and Stotfold scored their second at 87 minutes. I did note that this was the first 3pm KO I've been to this year when floodlights were not needed at all. Summer is coming.
