Struggling to find a game that got my interest so went for my nearest unticked step 6. I never did get to Rothwell Towns ground, which niggled at me. I know this is a totally different Club & ground but i feel that inch has now been scratched.
Sergeants Lawn is certainly not the easiest to visit. Parking is extremely limited with most using the grass verges on the busy main road. I chose a side street as a better option. You then access the ground via a narrow pathway through the park. The ground is actually ok once inside. Four small stands two with seats. All different without a kit stand in sight.
Mid table v strugglers the standard wasn't high but the game was better than that and the final result suggested. The visitors boyd by a freak goal after two minutes kept themselves in the game until early in the second half. At which stage the better home side, who themselves had an equally freakish goal began to go away from them. As the visitors heads started to drop the last twenty became a niggly affair. In particular the large visiting keeper who decided he was going to argue with anyone who fancied a go. Opponents, teammates and in particular the home supporters. How he stayed on the pitch i'm not sure.
That's three new ticks in a week, a light or normal week for some on here but two months worth at my normal rate.

Eaton Socon 1-1 Ampthill Town
Eaton entertained play-off chasing Ampthill Town at River Road and came away with a hard fought point.
In an even first half Eaton probably shaded it with the impressive Stan Ayre and Hayden Armiger both causing Ampthill problems every time they could get on the ball.
Leon Fulianty had the best chance of the half, firing straight at the keeper from close range after the ball fell to him from a set piece. At the other end, Ampthill had a number of dangerous set pieces that the home side defended well.
Just when it looked to be goalless for half time, Eaton took the lead. A dangerous delivery into the box from the excellent Levi Squillace was headed in by by Ryan Whittingham for his second goal in as many games.
With plenty of quality on show from the Eagles in the first half, the second was all about fight and determination. Ampthill pinned the home side back and bombarded the Eaton defence. The pressure paid with 15 minute to go when Drew Roberts tapped home after a shot flashed across the box. 1-1 and fully deserved for the away team.
Things were made more difficult for Eaton when Whittingham was harshly sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession but the home side dug deep to secure a point against a top side.
So many good performances with Squillace, Buckle, Kane and Walker all defending brilliantly but Dan Smith in goal took the MOM award. Dodgy hair Dan made some great saves which kept the eagles in the game in the second half and fully deserved his glass of red wine.
