Attendance 94 (hc), admission (deal including programme, a burger and a drink) £8.
Wasn't planning on doing a game tonight, but saw this deal and decided to head along. A win would secure AFC Welwyn the title.
Unfortunately, that was as good as it got. The "this game has got 0-0 written all over it" klaxon sounded about 10 minutes in, and the instincts proved to be right. AFC Welwyn had the odd chance, but it was a bit of an off night for them. The closest they got was a shot scrambled to safety about halfway through the second half, then a bit of a goalmouth scramble late on, but on a very poor pitch, they never really got going. It was a real relief when the final whistle came along to put us out of our misery.
AFC Welwyn not quite there yet, but I would imagine they will be promoted to Step 6.
A look at the on this day feature on Futbology showed that May 2nd is not a day for good games. In 2022 I was at Dagenham & Redbridge 0-0 Torquay United and in 2023 I was at Stonewall 0-0 Clapton CFC. Both absolute stinkers, and still not quite as bad as this one.
