Agree with that thus far except Roth at RB/RWB.

Also, i think we will still have another CB in, so that will impact it as well

No way Scotty has signed Gidaree to be 2nd fiddle to Roth at RB/RWB, especially when Roth isn’t a specialist in that position.

So, David Ogbonna signs for Sutton for an undisclosed fee.

Presumably if no club came in for him we would have wanted Oggy to stay, be a part of the squad and play his part in our season.

Which means we are now looking for not only another CB but also an attacking wide player.

BTW that's now 3 players we've sold to Sutton, Dobbo, Pruti and now Ogbonna.

Should this be under new signings? 🤔

Seeing as we have just 1 untested winger, I wonder if we’re looking to sign another or not play with wingers?

Within the last season and a half we have seen Sundire, Eweka, Chambers, Pruti, Gilbert & Ogbonna move on to full-time football, and it would appear from a lot of the interviews by new signings this season that we appear to have become a stepping stone for younger players to progress back to full-time football or players that have slipped out of full-time football to get back.

Although on the one hand it is great to see exciting young players starting out on their careers in football (& will be very interesting to keep track of their progress when they move on), on the other hand a big part of the family culture at the club appears to have come from players that have been loyal to the club for many seasons (Fraser, Jackman, Hollis, Harris, Togwell, Davies, Lench etc).

So, do you think our culture as a family club with strong bonds with players will continue with these changes?

Our current model is to nurture and develop young promising players and sell them on. This is a lot down to the budget we have but also it should make us an attractive destination for these types of players. I guess we have to get used to seeing our best players moved on every 1-2 seasons. Just means it’ll continually be very difficult to progress if we need big rebuilds every summer. Maybe in the next 5 years the clubs might be in a healthier financial position where we can start to try and retain our best players.

I think we’ve worked extremely hard in bringing in the right type of people that buy into the club and what it’s all about. I think the engagement between the fans and players is as strong as it ever has been, especially during my 7 and a bit years at the club. That’s not saying it’s any stronger than what it was under Bakes & Unders, I just think it’s carried on as normal since those days.

Whether they are here for a loan spell, a season or two, I believe the bond is strong.

I alluded to our recruitment process at the fans forum where I mentioned about how players will no longer play 300+ games for one club because of social media, agents, etc.. They’re always looking for the next best thing.

If it allows us to recruit the next best players coming up then we should enjoy them while they’re here!

I can’t not sign a player because of the risk of losing them! It’s football, it’s part of the game and at least we are getting paid well to lose them.

With what we received for David, it works out that he’s cost us roughly £70 a week to have with us over the course of the past 2 seasons. In my eyes and for what he’s given, that’s good business.

With Leon, we were massively in credit, it hasn’t cost us a penny to have him for 18 months, which is similar to some of the others too. I see it a positive that we’ve had some great players wear the shirt, served us well and moved on.

As frustrating as it might be (for us all), until we, or if we ever go full time, I would expect a similar trend each summer.

Let’s hope by their performances that the new signings can allow us to forget pretty quickly about the ones that have departed!

So until the model changes we can forget about progression it's all about survival.

Why shouldn’t a squad of players that have high expectations of progressing into full-time football not have a realistic prospect of finishing at least top half?

Players, managers etc should always have the highest expectations and of course it's football so regardless of circumstances there's always the possibility of doing well.

My point is if a club runs a model that inevitably means there will be a high turnover of players the odds of progression are a lot less and the odds of not surviving are a lot greater.

Scott, are you able to tell us if all the fees received so far (Sam, Leon, Edon, David) have been made available for squad rebuilding or not?

This other CB we've reportedly been pursuing doesn't seem overly keen to join us.

Could be the deal is dead or he's keeping his options open.

Hes got other offers to weigh up so naturally we have to be patient. But I’m sure with training starting in just 3 weeks, Scott will have a plan b-z!

I'm not worried on those types of things RR. Seems with the off season being in full swing, there will be moves a plenty going on and given the amount of business we have done thus far and still 3/4 weeks away from even pre-season friendlies, there is plenty of time and players to go.

I'm not worried SF, just nice to know if the targeted CB is still on the cards or not.

Morning all.

I’d like to think I’m more open than any other manager in the league with the information I give, along with the updates etc.

We’re still in the hunt for another CB, but things change by the hour at this point of the summer!

7 of the 8 signings so far were on our target sheet for the off season, hence why we were able to do our business early. However, some of the other targets, maybe there was a little bit of wishful thinking from me, but I’d rather aim high to begin with!

I can guarantee that there will be one, possibly two more additions yet, along with a number of trialists for the first game or two.
