New signings

Morning all.

I’d like to think I’m more open than any other manager in the league with the information I give, along with the updates etc.

We’re still in the hunt for another CB, but things change by the hour at this point of the summer!

7 of the 8 signings so far were on our target sheet for the off season, hence why we were able to do our business early. However, some of the other targets, maybe there was a little bit of wishful thinking from me, but I’d rather aim high to begin with!

I can guarantee that there will be one, possibly two more additions yet, along with a number of trialists for the first game or two.

Thanks and much appreciated for keeping us up to date.

Hi Scott,

I seem to recall that about 18 months ago the Club appointed a Talent Scout…… was that a success & do the Club still have a Talent Scout?

And if so, are many or any of the new signings a result of an effective scouting system at the Club or have they come about from your personal research & contacts?

Bit of a difficult question to answer really as it seems like self praise 😂

We have Darren that goes out and watches games for us from time to time. A lot of the time it’ll be me asking him to go and watch step 3 and 4 matches if I’ve seen someone that has caught my eye when watching highlights of matches on YouTube. I spend probably 8-10 hours a week watching highlights of matches within non league so I can cast an eye over what’s happening elsewhere.

I’m a bit strange really, I don’t think there’s one player that anyone could tell me about in the leagues that are one and two divisions below us that I wouldn’t already know.

So in answer to your question, the recruitment is done through me, sometimes Yella will suggest someone that has been put on his radar too.

Darren the scout will sometimes watch opposition games too and do us a live report of who we will be due to play in the coming weeks which is really useful.

If I get it wrong then I’d rather fall on my sword doing it that way rather than be lazy and let others be in control of it. A lot of managers in the league have a director of football who will conduct signings. To me, that’s absolutely bonkers!

If you manage to sign 2 more players, how many slots would you have for any trialists that impress? Regarding these trialists can you say what steps they currently play at?

Thanks for the response, it’s interesting to understand the process.

3-5 and some releases from academies. It’s pretty standard for us! You know how we work, you could’ve probably guessed that yourself!

There were a couple of comments on the Maidstone fan's forum a couple of day's ago saying that Reiss was coming to us.

I couldn't see where they had got their information from, and as we don't sign players from a full-time team like Maidstone, (it's always in the opposite direction !), assumed they had got Reiss confused with his brother Jordan's transfer.

Well I never.

They were right.

The majority verdict on their forum is that they are very sorry to have lost Reiss.

Looks a great signing for us.

Blimey, sounds like a heck of a signing for us. Everything we wanted and left footed to boot. I love the experience side of things for him as well as with the younger squad in place players like Reiss will bring much needed leadership and hopefully help to develop the younger lads and give them someone to lean on in the tougher moments. Brilliant work again by Scott and the team. Looking forward to seeing the new squad come together.

I replied on their forum that they were getting mixed up and that we'd signed Jordan the striker not Reiss the defender 😅

Yes very strong signing and much needed experience. Looking forward to seeing a solid CB partnership form between Reiss and Kiki. Plus add in Dyce’s quality and experience and the highly rated Debrois that’s a very strong defensive unit.

Don't forget 5.5 Ojemen and Scott Davies

On paper this looks like the experienced central defender we've been asking for.

The only mystery is how we've managed to sign a full time player.

Presumably he lives in the London area and is getting a proper job 😏

Excellent work from Scott.

Yes but are we planning on playing either Goddard or Anyanwu on the other side?

Both can play on the left so that's almost certainly a yes.

We're going to need plenty of balls into the box for little and large feed off.

Not sure Goddard has the pace to play wing?
