Contract Re-newals

Well this board has gone a bit quite over the season since we've picked up form so it's time to liven it up a bit.

It's coming to that time of the season when Managers contemplate on who stays, who goes and who comes!!!

So as we all like the think of ourselves as little Managers whose willing to put forward their opinions on the current squad and who should stay/go?

Everyone has their opinion and all disagreements will be settled calmly on this thread.

I'll stick my neck out first and kick things off - This is going to be extremely hard to decide!!

Goalkeepers

Ashley Harrison - Good shot stopper, but his kicking is letting him down and I think he knows it! Cover for Danny Potter - STAY

Danny Potter - I reckon Danny should be made first choice Goalkeeper, he's only been with us this season but I think he edges it with his kicking and anticipation in the 18yrd box - STAY

Defenders

Steve Ward - Loyal and the fans favourite, experienced and in his prime!! - STAY

Ben Chenery - Just signed a new 2 year contract so he won't be going anywhere! - STAY

Ross Johnson - Hasn't featured much recently but is good addition to a 4-4-2 formation and has a wicked throw!! - STAY

Craig Davidson - Experienced and the only natural left-back in the squad would have to play in a 4-4-2, good for cover too. - STAY

Gavin Cowan - Young, talented and tall. The players we've been lacking to reassure our defence - STAY

Midfielders

Mark Brennan - Experienced, but hasn't really done much for this club. I believe he is surplus to requirments at CIFC, sorry Mark! - GOES

Kevin Dobinson - Has finally been given the chance to prove his worth to the club is still young and has the fight in him. - STAYS

Chris Duffy - I honestly thought Duffy was going to go last season. But he seems one of the Manager's favourites so he STAYS

Scott Forbes - A tricky one this, Forbes has the skill but lacks the pace and bravery, plus we have enough left-sided players anyway - GOES

Micky Bennett - Another experienced player that can control the midfield, why did we buy Brennan when we already had this bloke? - STAYS - But only if he plays in Midfield!!!!

David Gregory - Dave is on a two year contract! I think if someone gives him the right kick up the backside he should come out willing to do something for this club - STAYS

Matt Jones - Another left sided player but when Parms, Duffy, Knight can all do his job better he is also surplus to requirements - GOES

John Kennedy - I hope this guy's on a long term contract!! He is one of the best signings this club has ever made! JK must STAY

Spencer Knight - Young, pacy and has an allergy to bug bites!! Left sided player that I hope will feature heavily when fit. - STAYS

Michael Lee - A young prospect in the same mould as JK, will be kept out of the first team by JK but will be an excellent addition for minor matches. - STAYS

Jeff Minton - This man should definately stay unless someone 'big' snaps him up!! A definate fan favourite at the minute! How did we ever lure him to CIFC? - STAYS

Lee Protheroe - The free kick specialist should stay - simply because I sponsor him and I reckon he's young and a brave fighter in the middle, his crossing is perfect too!!! - STAYS

Jukka Ruhanen - Another player that I sponsor so I reckon he should stay. Is finally settling into the club and I reckon he'll feature heavily next season too - STAYS

Steve Parmenter - Another long serving player, has seen the glory days with this club so he'll feature again next year - STAYS

Forwards

Lee Boylan - Top scorer again, he's on a two year deal so unless West Ham want him back for £20 million, he'll be ours - STAYS

Ollie Berquez - A good addition to have as cover for either Boylan or Gregory, and the minor matches too. - STAYS

Neil Gregory - The captain has got to stay, his arial ability and his partnership with Boylan are one of the best in the league - STAYS

Bertie Brayley - Not as lazy as Wayne Vaughan, but there could be a hint of him in this boy, I don't think he'll ever be higher than 4th in the pecking order so for him to continue his career I feel he should move on. - GOES

Well as you can see I've chosen to keep most of our current sqaud mostly as they're surplus to requirements rather than they can't hack it.

I don't think many additions should be made to our squad next season maybe a young defender that isn't quite ready fot a full game yet and another young striker who can learn from Boylan in the coming years.

What do the rest of the Yellow Army think?!

I agree mostly with your choices. Not sure about Forbes, the guy has talent and I want to give him a chance but to be honest when Spence Knight is fit he would be my understudy for Duffers.

I can't really see Bertie getting a regular place and to be honest he's too good for the reserves. If we were to release him he will probably join another Ryman club and score a hatful of goals.

I think during the summer we should look for a pacy young striker very much in the Boylan mould. With the financial situation how it is, there are bound to be lots of players released by Prem or football league clubs especially talented youngsters who are hungry for success and want to play first team football on a regular basis.

I know several players won't be able to go into the Conference, Wardy, Ashley, Matt Jones, Neil Gregory, etc.

But I did do those 'pre-reviews', (are they possible?) considering we hadn't been promoted. But if we did, then half or our squad would have to leave as they're made up of teachers, house-husbands and some I think are self employed and would lose a day's wages!!!

Yeah but that depends if we go full-time or not.

Daggers are still part-time and doing very nicely.

Players like Steve Heffer and Danny Shipp combine full time jobs with playing on a regular basis. I think Ashley Vickers is a teacher but still turns out regularly for D& R home and away.

It's up to the players concerned to decide whether they are able to juggle their work with playing Conference football for Canvey.

Matt Jones played fairly often for Daggers when they were in the Conference.

I think half of our squad is full-time anyway?!

I mean does Boylan do anything other than football? What about Brayley? Dave Gregory? JK? Spencer Knight? Proths? Dobbo? It's seems funny to call Rudi a 'student'!!

What do these guys do in their spare time if they're not training or playing golf?

Spencer Knight is the official Ryman league burger taster and tests insect reppellant!

Prothers I think is a plumber, he was on the shortlist for Britain's sexiest builder/plumber but didn't make the final five.

Dave Gregory is an all round intelligent bloke (he was on Britain's brainiest footballers), he probably sits at home with an encyclopedia.

Bertie Brayley is Neil Ruddock's gimp (sorry Bertie couldn't resist that one!)

As for the others, I have no idea!!

Yeah I remember seeing Dave on that programme! I think Jeff Minton might have been on there too, cause I seem to remember a lot of Leyton Orient players being on there!!!

And how would you know about Proth's little nomination? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I read about it on the non league website. I was gutted when he didn't make the last five.

Anyway I don't think the sight of Prothers dancing around in nothing but a pair of shorts would have been that pretty. He would never have lived it down.
