No Eton Manor Players? I think one or two should have got a call. Why is Mercer in it? Good player in his day but is well past it now. Mates with the manager? Is S.Williams of Barkingside the same player who was at Eton Manor? Danny Snowsill is a good player.

I WAS AT THE GAME LAST NIGHT AND SPEAKING WITH A FEW OTHER FANS, ROMFORD AND ABBEY. WAS TOLD THAT ABBEY HAD FOUR PLAYERS INVOLVED.

A GREAT GAME FOR THE FANS, A LOT OF QUALITY ALL OVER THE PITCH. WAS IMPRESSED WITH ROMFORD NO 8 AND WALTHAM ABBEYS 4, 8 AND 14. THEY STOOD OUT AMOUNGST A VERY TALENTED FIELD OF PLAYERS.

WHAT ABBEY PLAYERS ARE IN THE ESSEX SQUAD?

WAS QUITE A LARGE ATT. THOUGHT MAY OF SEEN TOWNS MANAGER THERE AS THEY PLAY ROMFORD SOON?

Eton Manor are playing in the LONDON SENIOR CUP the same night and rightly so wont release their players for this game,as for Tony Mercer well past it your joking right, the bloke is quality and everybody knows it,yes hes getting on and he cant get up and down like he use to do but on the ball and his comittment are second to none.He proved everyone wrong last year and no doubt he will prove them wrong again this year.

I have great respect for Tony Mercer and for what he has acheived in the game however how the bloody hell have the Essex FA picked a forty something player/manager when surely there are better young prospects about....?

Can a player from any league (albeit to the Essex FA etc) play for them.....such as a Ryman League player....?

Mercer was captain last year, and played at braintree against the army last year, he was brilliant,he scored 2 and set the other 1 up.Mercer that night was outstanding

Foxy our right mate. He may be good on the ball and all that, but if you can't get up and down whats the point. The army will be super fit. A younger player who's much fitter but may not be quite as good technically is a better option. He is obviously a mate of the manager. Talking from experience, Mercer was a good player and for his age is way beyound many, but if you stay close to him and don't give him space then he's nullified. At least if he was quick and fit he would offer something different.

Not only did the ECFA side beat the Army last year but the year before that also and on both occasions Tony Mercer was as inspirational as you can get. The side is normally chosen as much as possible from the Essex Senior League and I know that the League is very honoured at that. All the way back through history the Rep sides Managers have been plagued by clubs not releasing players and late call offs so its not an easy job but Darren does it well and Tony is a great motivator. Any ESL club with two or more players chosen should know Rule 10 (l) wherein they can postpone a game , so the League encourage participation and the rest is down to the lads on 9th at Tilbury 7.45pm ... Warning, the Army are particularly lively this year and will be a tough nut to crack . Good Luck !!

Correct Mercer didnt score last year but he did score 2 goals the year before at the away game at Aldershot which Essex won 3-2,listen people instead of slagging him off why dont you all come down a watch the game, ive no doubt that Tony Mercer will prove you all wrong. AGAIN,

Old gits like mercer use their head to be in the right place instead of running around like a headless chicken.

It is a team game and can be played in many ways.

Go Get `em Mercer.
