Southbury to Theatre of Dreams

Enfield Indy........

From Southgate College to Old Trafford.

Twelve months can be a long time in football just ask Alex Inglethorpe.

This time last year, the current Exeter City boss was a member of the Protec Football Academy coaching teams at the college's Southbury Leisure Centre base.

Now he is a household name, after guiding non-league Exeter to a momentous 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday.

And he is hoping for even more glory when United visit St James's Park next Wednesday for the replay.

Inglethorpe left the college last winter to become youth team coach at Leyton Orient.

As a former Exeter City player, he was considered first choice to become the club's new manager when Eamonn Dolan joined Reading earlier this season.

Southgate Football Course manager Gavin Willacy said: "He's done superbly down there and Saturday was a wonderful achievement by him and his team.

"We wish him all the best in the replay.

It goes to show that the staff can also progress into professional football from Southgate, just like the very best players."

Inglethorpe had a long playing career at Orient after starting as a junior at Watford and progressing via Barnet, where several past and present Southgate students are now professional players.

As Inglethorpe prepared his team to take on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Smith and Paul Scholes, he received the Nationwide Conference Manager of the Month Award for December after guiding the Grecians into a play-off spot.
