Abbey eye move up the ranks to Southern League

Recommended Posts

LV Mercury 14/1/05 says

Waltham Abbey could play their football in Southern League division 1 East next season if they win the Essex Senior League.

Abbey say

"The Essex Senior league have already told us that our ground is good enough"

"There are a few other sides who have applied but if we win the league we are likely to get the thumbs up subject to the ground grading"

There was a beautiful picture of the Concord goal though - Not one the keeper will want to remember I'm sure.

Strange that the article is silent on the need to get Landlord'a approval for the work, which has been aired on here as a potential barrier. In addition Abbey's local press has carried stuff about the need for Planning Approval for the new fence, etc. While Approval might be able to be obtained in time, the three month Appeal/Judicial Review period won't have elapsed. On that basis carrying out the work would be very risky.

I think, genuinely unfortunately, that they won't get there in time. But it would be bad form if that's been known all along, and the approval processes have been used as a way of trying to convince their players that its all somebody else's fault.

It didn't work at Ilford, it won't work at the Abbey.

I haven't seen anything on here or other NL sites that says that the new ground grading has been approved by the FA

So do the current rules apply or the new ones?

If it is the old ones then the ground has to be up to standard in April

if it is the new ones then any club promoted has 12 months to get up to standard

Hookey did you write the NLP bit for the ESL this week it uses your favorite metaphor?

NLP says

"Waltham Abbey's title hopes took another blow after London APSA pulled of the shock of the Season with a 2 - 0 win at Aveley. The Abbots have lost their last 3 league games and the wheels are threatening to come off."
