Ricay 2 Eastleigh 0

A crucial win for us, which lifts us back upto third and right back in the shake-up.

We started very well for the first 15 or 20 but couldnt make the breakthrough. The rest of the half was a bit scrappy, Eastleigh having a "goal" (rightly) chalked off for offside and Goths making a fine save with his feet. Last five we got back into it with Cous prodding home from 5 yards and their lardy keeper making a couple of good saves - from one of which he hit his head against the post and was replaced at half time.

I thought we were by far the better team in the second half and the only worry was that we wouldnt make the game safe. Ross finally planted a good header in the back of the net with five to go and that was it.

motm for me today was Leon closely followed by Matt Game. Attitude spot on, result spot on, well done.

Gothard

Macca Pat Trotty Henty

Johnston (Wareham) Hunter Game Dormer

Cousins Elder (Stowe)

snu Simmons, Stannard, Wayman

Kerrigan - groin, Forbes - back allegedly, Gallagher suspended.

Cmon you blues!!

Yep...I would agree with that assesment, jl. I find it encouraging that there are players that are playing with waistlines which are as large as ours!!! Come on you fat boys!!!

We were the better team for about 60 minutes but there were times when our disire to win was being out wieghed by our insistance to "blow up" and cause our own demise. Passess going astray, silly mistakes when Eastliegh caught us on the break (a three on one still makes me wonder how the hell Eastliegh still managed to get caught offside and save our grace)...I know it is churlish to point these things out 'cos we won (and a good win...I'm not denying us that) but it could've different if Eastliegh took their chances...The wonder of the word "if".

Then again when we played up to strengths, there was only one team on the pitch. Us!!! So 2 - 0, a good result for the Blues

On the plus side...both our strikers scored...Cuz with a back post, "sneak" header to a cross that I thought was provided by Nathan but Simon in the NLP said it was Leon (by far our best player on the pitch) and then Ross scoring a great strikers goal, rising above his marker and heading a powerful goal home!!!

With Yeading losing and apparently not a happy club at the moment, Braintree having played three more games than us, we need to keep this up to pressure on the leaders. As I say down in the "Cow Shed" on match days...

Great result for the blues.

Jl- why Forbes 'allegedly' a back strain. I spoke to him and Danny K before the match on Tuesday, and i told them they were lazy bug*ers and couldnt be bothered to play, but they insisted they were injured!

Why do you say Yeading are a unhappy club Gazza? Obviously theyve lost a couple of games, but do you know something i dont?

Also, why im in question mode, what is the cowshed? Ive always wondered.

Sounds like a good game, shame i couldnt be there. Gonna be great next year when i can go to every game. Great to see Cousins getting back on the scoresheet, and im always happy when Ross scores. And a clean sheet (our first since Leyton i think) to top it all. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Vital win for us, and a good performance in a difficult game... Heavy pitch and a big strong team meant we could easily have been muscled out of the game, but we competed well, particularly in midfield. Created the better chances throughout, as well as their goals the first keeper made some top saves (the one where he got injured was top draw) and the second one made a couple as well. Once again our superior fitness saw us finish the stronger, good to see Ross getting ont he scoresheet again.

Looking at the fixture lists if we win our next 3 games we'll be 2nd, no more than 6 points behind Yeading (we will have played a game more). All we've got to do is keep winning....
