Abandoned matches

I reckon tonight was the first abandoned game we've been involved in since 23.11.82 when Thanet's KSC tie at Gravesend was called off at half time due to a waterlogged pitch. It was 0-0 at the time.

As far as I know the last time Margate played in a match that was stopped due to fog was on 19.11.34. That one was quite an interesting game at an unusual venue...

Look at the result for 19.11.34 and the note at the end of the results !

The Southern League Cup Tie against Wimbledon in 1966 should have been called off. Hartsdown Park was fog bound for the first half as the Dons went 4-0 up. Amato missed a second half penalty and loads of other chances to. The night of the toilet rolls for those who went. Halcyon days..

Why on earth would a second replay between Margate and Folkestone be played at Highbury? Bet you haven't got the programme Jeff!!!

Mr Trice I am most disappointed! What about our game at Newport in 2000/01? Called off after 10 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch. The rearranged game saw the famous Eliot Martin 'goal' straight from a corner.

Well remember that ggreat game in 1967. Was

selling programmes at the time and after running out cos tens of wombles fans bought me out decided to stand on the half way line to try and see the action. Hopeless cos you could see only 10 or 15 metres. WE heard four distinct roars from the w fans and after each one sent a small boy down the coffin end to find out the score. We even asked players but they were not sure and the tannoy announcer declared the score at half time just to be on the safe side. Great second half of all out attack missed the penalty as said and then the hard core resulted in singing abandon abandon as loud as they could. As the cries petered out the fog cleared and we were astounded to see the hoards of Wombles fans at the the top end. We had not seen them up till then. Well the fog went and the game petered out. It was more exciting when it was foggy. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" />
