...just found this story about the forthcoming African Cup of Nations........

England-based Nigeria’s defender, Sam Sodje has disclosed that the BBC TV has contracted him to run commentaries for them on the 25th edition of the African Cup of Nations which kicks off in Egypt next week.

Sodje told our man from his base in London, “I was surprised when BBC officials approached me early in the New Year to ask me to run commentaries on the Cup of Nations for them.

"Initially I did not want to accept it because Coach Eguavoen had told me to come to camp; but when my club insisted that the invitation should be put into writing, and bearing in mind the problem with our football at present, I decided to take the offer.”

He expressed delight that the BBC could recognize him for such honour to run commentaries for them.

Sodje, who will be in Egypt to monitor the teams, did not disclose how much the respected international broadcasting medium will pay him.

He will follow the progress of the various African teams with particular focus on Nigeria.
