It's the women and kids that will suffer!

From the Braintree website. It seems the actions of Braintree's players of failing to behave themselves has jepordised the clubs future expansion of it's women and youth football.

FA ISSUE £2,000 FINE

Harding disappointed with outcome but - where was the referee?

Braintree Town Football Club have been advised of their punishment by the Football Association for being found guilty of charges brought against the Club following the Essex Senior Cup tie at Chelmsford City. Braintree Town Football Club have been fined two thousand pounds, together with costs. On hearing news of the punishment Chairman Lee Harding was disappointed: “We knew it was always going to be difficult to succeed with our defence, given that the Football Association appoint the judge, jury, prosecution and witnesses at such hearings. But to be denied the opportunity to cross-examine the referee, the prime witness, about his conduct before, during and after the abandonment of the match, left us of the opinion that the hearing was little more than a kangaroo court! Having seen the evidence, I also find it difficult to reconcile the innocence of the Chelmsford player Michael Haswell with the guilt of both our Robbie Martin and Chelmsford manager Craig Edwards.

The Club’s Board of Directors will now consider how such a large sum of money can best be found. For us, the development and progress of the first team is core business and will be unaffected, but I fear it is almost inevitable that our plans to expand our youth and women’s football initiatives will be affected. As to the Essex Senior Cup, I would imagine that the Club will have to take a long hard look as to whether it is in our interests to maintain the current level of commitment to the competition. Like our friends at Chelmsford City, we are keen to learn the lessons of this particular incident and then quickly move on as the Club have far more important matters to focus upon.”

There's an interesting post on the Iron Chatter board from the Iron Fan expressing disappointment at the Chairman's staement that it's women and children to be sacrificed rather than saved first.

The chap refers to the fine of £2,900 and suggests that its around one week's wages for the players and managemnet at Cressing Road. He wonders whether they would be prepared to forego the one weeks wages in order to save the women and children.

Hmmnnnnn.

What AFF has also conveniently not mentioned is the reply that was given to that supporter, which went on to say the youth and ladies would not become casualties just that the future developments of the 2 teams would take a little longer than first expected.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Thanks Andy G.

As you put it, I conveniently failed to mention a reply simply because I was not aware that a reply had been made to the post! When I looked, there was only one on the thread.

Sorry to spoil your story, old chap.

What part of "I was not aware that a reply had been made to the post as when I looked there was only one on the the thread" are you struggling to understand Andy?

I'll try again. I looked on Iron Chatter. There was one post on what was a new thread. One post only. Single. Solitary. All alone. No replies or further postings on that thread. A lonely post. I mentioned it on here.

I didn't mention any reply to that post as when I looked at it, there was only one post on the thing.

Your post was made at 4.23pm AFF, reply on IRON CHATTER was made at 1.59 pm.
I'm not having a go at any individual just trying to clarify a point.

For the love of Jesus.

I saw the single post on Iron Chatter. I have had a busy afternoon. I came back on these forums and on here and saw Ryan's and replied to it at 4.23 or whenever it was.

AFF, no not aimed at you, I was refering to the braintree statement thingy.

The satement says "The Club’s Board of Directors will now consider how such a large sum of money can best be found."

It then goes on to say "we are keen to learn the lessons of this particular incident and then quickly move on as the Club have far more important matters to focus upon.”

I was just questioning what is it that it more improtant than finding this "large sum of money"

Thanks for that TC. I see.

Harsh words of criticism directed at the F.A. indeed. I suspect that the suggestion that this was a kangaroo court, coupled with the doubt expressed of the 'Not proven' verdict for Chelmsford's Michael Haswell, coming in a Statement from the Chairman of a club found guilty of being unable to control its players, in an Official Press Release, is unlikely to be appreciated by the blazers in Soho Square. Some further censure may follow, perhaps.

The difficulty of finding £2000 is unlikely to receive much sympathy outside of the Urban District of Braintree, I would have thought. There's plenty of clubs who would be pleased to be sitting in a ground where half the car park is likely to be worth something of the order of £1.5 million.

The priorities of the current Chairman of Braintree Town FC are a horse of a different colour, of course.

I suspect that, on reflection, Buzz Lightyear wishes he had kept his views to himself on this one. He's not had a good week.
