WEFC Reserves 2 Farnborough Res 0

WEFC returned to winning ways last night. Due to numerous players being unavailable, WEFC fielded a patched up side including several who had to play through niggling injuries. The side played well for the first 30 minutes resulting in a superb 20 yard goal from Dan Sacha. Having scored, WEFC took their foot off the gas and just did enough for the rest of the game to keep the opposition at bay. Richard Sanford added a second goal after an hour, and WEFC ran out fairly comfortable winners. Not the most inspriring match, but the team defended very well to keep a clean sheet. Daniel Butler made his first start, and was replaced near the end by (young) Eugene Spellman who may have been lacking some match practise !!

Morris (Gardiner 46); Elford; Sanford; Turner; Davies (Baker 46); Coyne; Maqsood; Sacha; Abbott; Butler (Spellman 80); J Woodcraft (Morris 46).

Considering the team put out had a couple of old codgers playing one in defence and another as a late sub,Masqood carrying a knee injury,Gardiner came on in the second half having apparently played for 90 min for Spital the same evening,a couple of young bucks running as hard as they could against a team that had recently done them over i would have thought the overall performance was very good considering they played Hendon 1st team on Monday. Eton Wick recently asked and got 5 players from Spital to help them out in a midweek fixture which they went on to win three-one, why arent WEFC asking local clubs to release players to help out in midweek if they are that short of players. With four games left all at home i would have thought they would get some response. Who knows there might be another Will out there waiting to join. why not add a post script in the local papers for reserves with the first team report.
