Just wondered what fans think about the efforts of Kevin and Peter.

They've put in alot of time and a shed load of cash into Windsor & Eton over the years but if they were to leave the club for whatever reason in the near future, what would their legacy be?

There's no doubt that at the time they got involved with the club and assumed their present roles, the club had been financially unstable for many years and was struggling again, to reamin afloat.

IMO Kevin and Peters main achievement is to bring some financial stability to the club (yes i know!) and let things off the field tick over. They have ploughed considerable sums into players wages, have funded improvements to get Stag Meadow an "A" grade, and have always backed their managers 100%

Yet when they walk away what really is there impact?

Stag Meadow whilst an improvement still boasts poor facilities in terms of a club house and the chance for the club to make extra money. The once much heralded new stand development never materialised, as did a trainning pitch and in short there is very little on the eye evidance of where Kevin and Peters money has been spent.

I can't help thinking whilst great servants to the club, more could have been achieved by them putting money into club infrastructure than on relatively lavish non-league player salaries.

I read the above thread with interest. What would Peter and Kevin's legacy be, well when they took over we were relegated three years in a row, they put us on a sound financial footing and got us back to the Premier Division - no mean feat. Stag Meadow although not the best ground in the league has been transformed, gone are the grass banks, the wooden benches in the main stand, the weeds on the terraces, we have a compact ground fit for our purpose. Those two guys have put so much effort into the club, that in answer to your question the legacy they would leave behind is Windsor & Eton FC is still alive. After the third successive relegation we were in danger of dying outright, now although we are going down this season, we are alive and well.

On top of what Geggy has said they've also wiped out the historical debts left by previous administrations and brought a sense of professionalism into the way the club is run throughout.

The plans for the new dressing rooms, clubhouse and training pitch haven't disappeared but are in obeyance awaiting clarification of exactly what funding gan be gained from the likes of the Football Foundation.

At the end of the day would any of our supporters accept Combined Counties League football for these extra facilities because unless you have an extremely rich benefactor you can either have the best level of football available or the best facilities in a much lower league - I know what my choice would be!

how about a WEFC Squad with all local talent from the Windsor area, No imports, A local manager, for one season only, all playing for nothing other than the honour of representing their local senior club. That would go down well with the supporters and financialy could set WEFC up for the future.money could be used on facilities like changing rooms, training pitch, stabalize the club for one year then go for the silverware. History could be made and what a legacu to leave. ALL LOCAL LADS.

Have read the few replies so far with interest.

Geggy makes a good point in highlighting just how bad the plight of the club was back in the day, but i don't accept that the club would ever have died out completely. It's not as though Stag Meadow could have been sold, and the club would always exist on that basis in some form.

I agree that Kevin and Peter owe the club nothing and have invested considerable sums of their own time and money into what must seem a bottomless pit at times.

I think it though a fair question to ask as to if they have got value for their money and if they have got the balance right between aiming for promotions and investing in club infrastructure. Certainly IMO some bizarre decisions were made over the years, notably in giving certain managers relatively high player budgets when clearly the club has neither the gate or the facilities to cope with Conference South and arguably Premier division standards of football.

It may be difficult for supporters to accept a relative period declind or stagnation, but where as players will always come and go, a new clubhouse or similar will last a hell of alot longer. IMO Kevin and Peter would have served the club better in this way not only by improving the facilities but by moving the club away from buying successes and into developing a sourcing more substainable sources of players.

Lets face it, for 20 years now Windsors crowds have been struggling to reach three figures for many league games and it'safe to say that those that do so come not because of the standard of footie on offer, but because of an affinity with the club or for more social reasons. These people would get behind pretty much whatever standard of footie was on offer.

You say we should have invested in facilities, but we now have a good ground with terracing all round, a club house that offers the facilities we require (remember, we are not a big club) and the only thing we could really use is a training pitch.

A couple of years ago we were pushing for promotion and doing extremely well in the Trophy, this shows that the money paid on players was justified, we had a terrible injury crisis and, like most teams at our level, reasonably low strength in depth.

As Geggy points out, the major acheivement of these two gentlemen is that Windsor still exist and play at a senior level. We have our own ground and we have our own identity, something that a lot of other clubs have suffered with over the last few decades.

I would like to say a thank you to Peter & Kevin and look forward to next year when we will turn it around on the pitch and come back fighting into the Premier (Ryman or other).

I would just like to say, feel free to knock the performance on the pitch wehn it deserves it, but off the pitch the amount of hard work and effort that goes in should not be knocked or doubted, and the acheivements in any way understated.

A fine idea and one which the board would understandably bite your hand off for if it were to guarantee stabilization and not further relegation. Do you honestly believe though that players would play for the honour of representing their local team if another team 5 or 10 miles away is offering them £50, £100 or whatever per week? There are many skilful players playing in local leagues but the step-up in level normally finds them out either physically or mentally. Can they cope with training twice a week [can they afford it if on zero wages] and, more importantly, can you keep them out of the pub on a Friday night and stop them playing with their mates on a Sunday when you might be asking them to play twice a week for Windsor as well?
The other question is whether the directors would then wish to spend the money they've saved on facilities but accept no success on the pitch. I would think if they could save that money they would probbly prefer to have it in their own bank accounts still!
At the end of the day what we need is a bigger board of directors so that the strain on personal resources is shared, when you think of the amount of wealthy people in this area you would think that would be easy to sort out but the reason people in this area are wealthy is because they don't spend their money unless they can see a return which is something Peter and Kevin are not expecting [just like the majority of people funding non-league football].
It's safe to say that [currently] players' wages are a big part of the annual expenditure but even without those I think you would still be shocked at just how much it costs to keep the club operating on a daily basis.
To go back to my opening comment though, if you honestly think that you could provide what you have suggested [or know someone that can] then talk to Peter and Kevin because I know they would be interested!

With respect to Windsor_Sec, why does the club feel that it has to stay at it's current Ryman League level? What are the benefits?

You have to take the good with bad of course and there are obvious examples of decent players who've graced the club, who would not have been there without the salaries the club currently offer.

I'd also point out the thousands of pounds that have gone down the drain of average players often with inflated ego's living on past glories, who frankly have taken the club to the cleaners for money they aint worth.

I digress. The point is where would the club be if Kevin and Peter were to Pull the Plug? Back to the dark days of the late eighties/early nineties?

Surely the club should be playing football that is sustainable and it stands or falls by what the areas got, be it good or bad.

You make a good point about directors, though anyone thinking of getting involved would hardly be inspired by the corporate face of Stag Meadow and a wage bill running into the thousands every week.

If the club had gone down this route, how better off would we have been to use the cash injection provided by ground shares with Wokingham and Slough?

Just a thought, with respect.
