Halifax Town http://www.halifaxafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Match/MatchReport/0,,10437~35670,00.html

Halifax Town have been defeated 3-2 away at St Albans, a result which leaves Shay boss Chris Wilder embarassed with his team's performance and result.

The Town boss was not happy with his side which lost to St Albans who leapfrog the Shaymen in the table and leaves the Shaymen in 19th place this evening.

He said after the game, "It wasn't good enough, not often in my time here I have found myself embarassed. They were better than us in every department. The goals conceded were shambolic. The players didn't take responsibility.”

“These players are fighting for their futures, where do they go from here, I hope they are embarassed themselves by our league position. If we have got a point this afternoon it woud have been unjustified. They are a good bunch, they have good spirit but that alone doesn't win you games.”

Chris Wilder brought in Felix Bastians, who had joined the Shaymen on loan from Coca Cola League One side Nottingham Forest this week and the 18 year old joined Darryn Stamp, Nathan Joynes and Lionel Ainsworth in scoring on their debuts for Town this seaon.

Town started with Ainsworth and Killeen up front with Darryn Stamp on the bench and it was the on loan Derby striker which caused an early threat for Town. Tom Kearney headed away an early St Albans freekick, Lewis Killeen found Ainsworth down the left side, however despite a promising run towards the box was unable to get a shot at goal.

On 8 minutes, Killeen intercepted the ball at the edge of the box, he found Bastians unmarked to his left and he fired a shot past the right hand post.

Neal Trotman found himself in the referee's book on 15 minutes, his misplaced pass put Town in trouble, he recovered to make a challenge however when the ball went out for a throw, the referee booked him for his tackle.

Town found themselves behind on 22 minutes, St Albans attacked on the right hand side, a neat ball to Leon Archer saw the defence appeal for an incorrect offside and he had plenty of time to pick out strike partner Lee Clarke who had a simple tap in from inside the 6 yard area.

The home side doubled the lead two minutes later, a freekick was awarded by Mr Hopkins for a foul by Adam Quinn. The set piece was quickly taken with the Town defence not alert enugh, Archer's shot was blocked by Mawson but it had enough power to end up in the bottom left corner of the net.

Martin Foster's ball into the danger area after a corner found Trotman whose touch went wide of the left hand post with former Boston keeper Paul Bastock beaten.

On 34 minutes, Felix Bastian's struck from a freekick. Quinn had been fouled at the edge of the box following an offside. There was a delay in the kick being taken with a home player booked for encroachment but it didn't put off the German winger who made no mistake in curling the ball past the wall and giving the Shaymen hope.

Dean Cracknell had an effort high over the bar and Mawson had to be alert on 41 minutes when a ball between Doughty and Quinn was aimed for Mally Hann however the ball had too much pace and went through to the goalkeeper.

In first time injury time, Bastians received the ball from Trotman's header off Toulson's throw, with his back to goal he turned and his effort was wide of the post.

Wilder brought on Stamp at the start of the second half for Danny Forrest in a bid to change the fortunes and he should have eqalised for the Shaymen within four minutes. Ainsworth won the ball in midfield and found Bastians, his pinpoint cross from the byline found Stamp two yards from goal at the far post and he headed wide of the near post.

Town tried to find a way past Bastock but found shots deflecting to the goalkeeper or were unable to create too many opportunites.

St Albans ensured all three points on 58 minutes, Quinn's poor backpass from the left fullback position gave Mawson a difficult task to clear the ball under pressure, his pass went straight to the home side and Tom Davis' cool shot left Town with an impossible task to get anything out of the game.</P>

Djoumin Sagare fouled Ainsworth a minute later, Kearney's freekick found Trotman who again failed to hit the target.

ST Albans could have made it 4-1 with 20 minutes left, Damian Batt's long range effort took a massive deflection off one of his own players and the ball fell kindly for Mawson to save.

Mawson's freekick on 76 minutes was well won in the air by Stamp who headed down for second half substitute Gus Uhlbenbeek but his shot was deflected into the grateful arms of Bastock.

Town did get a consolation goal in injury time, Foster's ball found an onside Darryn Stamp in space, he took the ball past Bastock and under pressure from Gary Elphick tapped the ball home.

Cracknell was sent off for a second bookable offence for a foul on Killeen however it was too late for the man advantage.</P>

Rushden & D http://www.thediamondsfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Match/MatchReport/0,,10784~35694,00.html

Rushden and Diamonds made it five wins in a row when recording a 1-0 win over St Albans City at Nene Park, with a Dino Maamria goal giving them the win that their second half performance deserved. It was the bold half-time substitutions of bringing on Maamria and Michael Rankine that changed the game after a very poor first half, but an injury time clearance inside the six-yard box by Mark Albrighton sealed the win.

Manager Westley made two changes to the starting line up as seen at Dagenham, with Jon Ashton and Marcus Kelly replacing Michael Bostwick and Dino Maamria, with the two displaced players being joined on the bench by Rankine and Goodliffe. Jamie Cook reverted to the right midfield, with Marcus Kelly back on the left.

St Albans City manager Colin Lippiatt made two changes to the line up that drew 2-2 with Crawley at Clarence Park, with the Ahmed Deen making his debut after signing on Friday from Fisher Athletic and Simon Martin being restored to the starting line up. Chris Seeby dropped to the bench and Leon Archer was suspended.

A rather dull afternoon greeted the two teams, but an improved attendance reflected the recent improvement in fortunes, with over 200 making the trip up from Hertfordshire.

St Albans City kicked off attacking the De Banke end, with Diamonds playing the expected 4-4-2, with Cook, Wilson, Mills and Kelly in midfield, Jon Ashton at right back, and Wayne Hatswell at left back.

The first half was an awful spectacle, with neither side deserving to get anything out of it. St Albans main threat came from a series of free-kicks won in dangerous positions, but each one ended up in the defensive wall.

There was only really one highlight of the half from the Diamonds point of view. This was on 26 minutes, with a move involving Wayne Hatswell, who won the ball in a solid tackle, got the ball to Simeon Jackson on the left, who cut inside about 30 yards from goal and hit a powerful shot which appeared to have Bastock beaten.

The only other topic of conversation at half-time was the dispute over one of the free kicks won rather theatrically by Tom Davis on the edge of the box on 42 minutes, and after a certain amount of tussling between the players Mark Albrighton saw yellow for his part in proceedings.

Half-time: Rushden & Diamonds 0 - 0 St Albans City

Manager Westley took the bold decision to bring on two substitutes at half-time, with Rankine and Maamria replacing the ineffective Kelly and Beardsley. It was this move that made all the difference to the game, with Rankine in particular presenting a totally different threat to the St Albans defence, as Maamria added more steel to the midfield.

Almost immediately Diamonds started carving out chances, with Rankine shrugging off his marker and setting off towards goal on a couple of occasions. The first of these resulted in the Diamonds first corner of the game, and the second resulted in a decent shot well saved by Paul Bastock. Rankine was also involved in other raids which resulted in the ball breaking to the overlapping Jon Ashton, whose dangerous cross from the right was well cut out.

A further threat came from a Paul Wilson throw, which Chris Hope won in the air, the ball breaking to Gary Mills, who fed the ball wide to Jamie Cook, whose cross reached Rankine, who had an acrobatic effort blocked, and Dino Maamria narrowly failed to knock the ball past Bastock.

The chances were coming thick and fast, and shortly afterwards another ball into the area from Cook was only deflected across the area, and fell to Glenn Wilson with only Bastock to beat - but just as it looked like the deadlock must be broken Wilson's shot hit Simeon Jackson and was cleared to safety.

On 67 minutes Manager Westley played his last card, bringing on Michael Bostwick to bring a threat down the right hand side, replacing Glenn Wilson. Shortly afterwards Paul Bastock was forced into a great save to tip over a Chris Hope header as the Diamonds fans sensed that a goal was coming and got right behind their team.

Maamria was linking the midfield to the strikeforce, notably to Rankine, with the Saints defence having to resort to desperate measures to stop him - Gary Elphick earning a deserved yellow when preventing one particular break. Another break resulted in Rankine finding the net, but play had already been brought back for offside.

With 15 minutes left, it was the combination of Cook, Jackson and Rankine that finally brought the Diamonds goal, with Rankine's run and shot resulting in his effort being blocked, but it broke to Dino Maamria who put the ball wide of Bastock's left hand for a goal on his Nene Park debut.

Although the Saints were then spurred on to try for an equaliser, Diamonds had another great chance when Simeon Jackson broke after appearing to have come back from an offside position, and his shot was blocked, but fell to Michael Bostwick whose shot was straight at Paul Bastock, who seemed to be enjoying the banter with the DeBanke Fans,

As time ticked away the Saints had one of their few chances of the second half, and it took a great clearance from Mark Albrighton to preserve the Diamonds lead.

Referee Barratt added on four minutes of injury time, and it was almost 5pm before he blew the final whistle to confirm the Diamonds fifth successive win.

The Diamonds second half performance earned the win, but a better showing over 90 minutes will be needed at Exeter on Tuesday if the winning run is to be extended.

Kidderminster Harriers Official Website

http://www.harriers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Match/MatchReport/0,,10438~35961,00.html

HARRIERS left their Conference Play-Off hopes hanging by a thread after being held - with nine men - at struggling St. Albans City at Clarence Park this afternoon.

Sadly this will be a game that's probably remembered for everything other than the football - but the most important factor is that Harriers are virtually now in 'must win' territory for their remaining Conference games if their to cement a Play-Off finish with their own results.

The match was marred by something of a rarity - a Harriers' red card. Well, two to be exact with striker James Constable shown a straight red in mysterious circumstances and Stuart Whitehead dismissed for two bookable offences.

After finishing ten minutes of the game with nine men you'd think a 1-1 draw and a point was a respectable end result but sadly that isn't the case - early missed chances and a second half performance that fizzled out under the numeric pressure meant that City have picked up four points from Harriers this season - with much of the advantage handed to them.

That point would apply quite literally to the day's first goal - but more to that in a moment, as the visitors could easily have been in front inside the first ten minutes as the match started in a very one-sided fashion.

New boys Glenn Wilson, Jon Brady and Andy Ferrell all performed well this afternoon and it was Brady's inch-perfect cross that found the head of Iyseden Christie with six minutes gone, but the former Mansfield man could only crash his unmarked bullet header crashing onto the bar.

The pressure was all on the hosts but it was them who took the lead with 20 minutes on the clock. Goalkeeper Steve Taylor unfortunately was at fault - he came to collect the ball at the edge of his area but only scooped fresh air when under pressure from Leon ARCHER, leaving the City man free to race past him and stroll the ball into the empty net.

The goal was against the run of play and despite getting in front City still weren't able to take control of things - Christie was left free to cut inside into the box seven minutes later but his shot went wide - Constable poking a header wide of the target five minutes further on.

The scores were deservedly levelled on 34 minutes; Russ Penn battled fantastically through the City midfield before playing a through ball to CONSTABLE who ran 30 yards before slotting home clinically for the equaliser.

Seven minutes later though Constable found himself in the showers early as he was shown a straight red card. It's said that the Harriers' striker aimed an elbow at City's Malik Buari, but with no players and no fans next to the incident reacting with as much of a squeak and Buari himself remaining aloof it was something of a mystery and at least a little harsh. The club will study the match video before deciding whether or not they intend to construct any appeal of the decision.

Harriers just weren't the same side in the second period; one man down may be, but there seemed to be much more missing than just Constable. Matt Hann got himself free on goal on 68 minutes but Taylor wasn't even made to move with the shot being blazed into the side netting.

The visitors tried their best to create when they got the ball forward but with the referee making it a stop-start, stop-start affair it was hard to keep up any momentum. They could have snatched all three points 12 minutes from the end however, Harkness' corner reached Creighton who saw his great header parried by Paul Bastock.

Whithead's dismissal for a second bookable offence - a foul on Hann - was a little more run of the mill but it just compounded Harriers' misery on the day. A late play-off charge had been so well set-up just weeks ago but it seems victory over fellow hopefuls Burton on Tuesday is now something of a necessity.

St Albans: Bastock, Seeby (Clarke 86), Elphick, Sangare, Deen, Buari (Watters 69), Lopez (Cracknell 69), Davis, Hann, Hastings, Archer. Subs Not Used: Perks, Marwa.

Harriers: Taylor, Wilson, Whitehead, Creighton, Harkness, Penn, Ferrell, Brady (Russell 59), Blackwood (Reynolds 59), Constable, Christie.<BR>Subs Not Used: Sedgemore, Hay, Smikle.

Attendance: 821 (Approx 100 away)
