Worst Fans In The SML

Recommended Posts

Good question but common knowledge I'm afraid that there is one in particular, everyone knows who it is so I don't feel inclined to say incase the team concerned come on and read this. Apart from the one there are no intimidating grounds or supporters as far as I'm aware although I can't speak for the new teams Edgware Town, Hertford Town or Chalfont St Peter, Gavin will no doubt confirm Edgware fans are pussy cats. Biggleswade United fans are great but how do you get on with Town when you play, glad you enjoyed my Dundee comparison by the way but someone even compared your rivalry to Celtic and Rangers mutiplied by 100.

Gavin is a pussycat in person - it's just on forums he gets a bit aggressive sometimes!

We've never had any problems with the ex Ryman teams here. Our supporters can be a bit loud - especially in the 2nd half after a few beers, but it's all good natured. Even with the big gates we had vs Ware there was never any trouble with the supporters. There was usually a "handbags" on the field though!

Who is the culprit then Rhodes? PM me please!

HTFCew - Just private messaged you the answer, be careful when you go to their place. Interesting there was no bother whenever you played Ware or when the Biggleswade teams meet, that rivalry makes Celtic and Rangers seem small beer. I'm sure you will really enjoy the SSML, it really is a very genuine league with nice people and I hope, as expected, you do well, I think Hertford are widely regarded as a Step 4 Club anyway and I'm not just saying that to be nice, on paper you should walk the league with Harefield, Edgware and Aylesbury Vale in close proximity.

I've never come across hostility between fans at games but obviously I was concentrating hard on the games at all times <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

....

Well, last season my friend and I, yes just the two of us, were singing for long periods of games, we even had an air horn at several matches. The players loved it, and got us a few pints after we had beaten Chalfont SP, 6-2 at home.

At Hertford away the two of us sang for long periods, do you remember HTFC? and we 'roared the team home to their (at the time) first away win 5-3.

Now my mate says he may not come to many games, as he felt stupid just the two of us, and we got outsung by 5 kids at Tooting away in the cup lol.

It's very hard to get some noise going when its the two of you, and the rest are old boys, asking you to be quiet because they want to listin to to the football on their radio or have a chat!!!

The players though, loved it, we chanted their names, sang a LOT of various songs, and really got behind them.

The only instance of any bother last season was at home to Ware, we sang ' we shall not be moved' as this was the game after the petition I had set up to save our ground. They had a large following of around 15/20 behind the goal, and replied with ' knock it down' knock it down'

My friend and I took offence to this and replid with some verbal and swearing chants. They had some muppet walk round and say dont swear as his kids were at the game. Fair enough, but he should not be chanting about a fellow teams ground being knocked down. When I said it would be one less place for them to visit he said, tough, I came close to smacking him but didn't.

I heard you say Oxhey jets have some fans who could be a bit naughty? do you have any stories?

My mate is a Borehamwood fan, they DO have a repuattion, and have caused bother, but they only seem to come out of the big cup games. Against Woking in the Fa trophy semi final last season, Bwood high street was lined with ob, and riot vans.

I dont think you get any problems at this level, of course if it did kick off, it could get nasty as there are no stewards are ob in the ground, so by the team they arrived, all hell could have broken loose.

Thats the nice thing about football at this level, no stewards and you take your beer and drink it on the terraces and have some good banter, like football should be.

Er yes, you have the general picture Manorborn, clearly you know who they are but the new Club's to the league wouldn't have a clue and hopefully won't be in for a rude awakening.

No Manic, it's nothing like that, it's more the players who are to blame and your players will be intimidated and provoked during the proceedings, if they rise to it there will be problems. I don't think we will ever go back to the bad old days as you put it, presumably meaning the 70s and 80s era, this is still non league football at the end of the day and whereas the Confernence is slowly but surely heading that way with some problem Club's we are still relatively safe thank God.

No it's always at their place which is a bit like entering the lions den although it's a nice ground with FA Charter Standard status. Anyway I don't want to upset them if they hear about the Forum and come on, obviously they will realise we're going on about them from our comments. Changing the subject slightly there are also Club's with very few fans which isn't meant in a negative 'worst fans' sense, people have already mentioned Kingsbury who are very much 'one man and his dog' and there is also London Colney, Biggleswade Town, Holmer Green and surprisingly Harefield United, it's a shame as they are all good Club's with hard working Committees.

Harefield always bring a few to us..local derby I expect. They have the big time charlie who tries to get in at about half two for nothing by claiming he only has a £20 or £50 note and hoping we won't have any change. We just tell him to either go to the bar and have a drink or get in his car and drive to the shops and buy a mars bar...strangely he then finds a smaller denomination of note or even some change.

Colney, Big Les always come mob handed in committee numbers. HG a couple of fans and committee but Bill the Chairman is a top geezer.
