aving watched a few of our pre season games its nice to see young local talent, but n reality i thought we were going to show amition to get straight back up, we do not have enough experience or ability in the current squad to achieve, if you go back 3 years to when we got out of this leauge we had, Cousins, Scott,Adams, Carroll, O'Conner,Parsons,Brady, the current team does not compare so i believe unless we can ge in some established players to help the youngters through its goin to be a long hard season ????????

I feel we need to get another goalscorer up front and we have a good side to be honest and although some results have been dissapointing i do see signs we will have a good side.

Plus it seems like the players on the pitch want to play for the club now! I feel we will get stronger and stronger as the season goes on as the team is very new and everyones getting to know each other and their role in the side.

We have not played anyone with any kind of pedigree and we have struggled with goals and performances, the true test starts sat and i believe we will struggle unless we get some experience at this level.

Windsor Dave, the teams we have played have mostly been from the level we will be playing at with a couple lower:-

Harrow Borough - Higher Level

Ashford Town - Same Level (Ryman)

Ware - Same Level (Ryman)

Met Police - Same Level (Ryman)

Edgware Town - Lower Level

North Greenford Utd - Lower Level (was supposed to be a reserve game)

Welwyn Garden City - Lower Level

Godalming Town - Same Level (Ryman)

Basically we need confidence and you will not get that by playing loads of teams above you losing every game.

Yes, a one off game against a big club is nice for many reasons but it will not help you gage how good your team will be against teams at your level.

Who knows how things will turn out?

-We have no real idea how the new regime will perform;

-We have no real idea how the new players will perform, how they will mesh as a team, whether they are fit, or if they will get injuries;

-We have no real idea how the opposition will stack up in the Southern League;

Let's wait until 10 games in before writing off or talking up this team. If there are only around 10 points on the board after 10 games, then we can say it will be a long season.

Quite honestly, I hope to see a team trying to play football, and looking happy doing it. That would be improvement enough after last year!

There's nothing quite like a bit of doom and gloom before we've even kicked a ball in anger is there?

As sm4wefc said, let's see where we are after 10 games, we'll have a better idea then.

Realistically I would be happy with 5 points from the first 12 and would expect nothing from the Swindon game as they must be odds-on favourites to win the league I would have thought.

Hammerman, 'not good enough or no strength in depth'. You mean like we had last season with all that experience on the pitch and on the bench? I'm loooking forward to seeing a younger fitter side playing with pride, you can see from who remains from last years' squad who was committed to the cause, the others were just here for an easy payday! Experience and strength are worthless if you don't use them.

There will have to be a settling-in period as we have assembled virtually a new squad and they have to get to know each other. Couple that with playing in a new league which by all accounts is a different style of football to that in the Ryman League and you can see that instant success will not be easy to come by.

All the management and players would ask, I'm sure, is that they be given a chance. We do have an element of moaners at the club who will be at it as soon as the first goal is conceded but what good does berating [and some times insulting] the players do? It just knocks their confidence. They'll be more than aware if they've cocked-up so a bit of support rather than a bollocking will go a long way.

I totally agree Windsor Sec. There are a lot of new variables to the club this year and we will get accustom to that eventually. The friendlies mean nothing. It is Saturday that counts. I am really looking forward to the season. A New manager, A New Team and A New League. It's all very interesting. Let's be positive <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

If friendlies mean nothing why do we play them?

I understand we are in a new league but we have played against teams at the same level and that hasn't inspired me with any confidence.

I'm not a moaner or shouter I just like to see good football.

As for last season you can probably blame poor management for that.

Just because you have a supposedly younger and fitter side doesn't mean they are any good.

If I'm wrong after the first 10 games then I shall hold my hands up and apologise.

I agree. Simon Lane has said from the start that were going up, thats why he got the managers job.

(lets eat jelly beans??? only 5 though)

Matt Seedal comes on loan to windsor from hampton for a month to get fit.

Hammerman, football's all about opinions and you're entitled to air yours as much as anyone. My comments about being younger and fitter didn't say they would be better [i hope they are though!], but just summed up what I personally am looking forward to this season. Pride is, for me, the key factor though. If we lose a game I want to see that it hurts them and inspires them to try even harder instead of seeing them take their frustration out by swearing at officials or kicking lumps out of people as we've seen in the past. For the first time in ages the nucleus of the squad is locally-based which means they can't hide away when things are going wrong whereas in the past players picked up their wages and left the ground knowing they wouldn't be getting stick in their local pubs that weekend because most of them lived in places that had never heard of Windsor & Eton!

Like I said, give it ten games and we'll see what happens. If it's not working then Simon will make changes but, whatever happens, there's no reason for anyone to apologise for airing their concerns whether they're right or wrong.
