Woking today

We didn't play particularly well, but we grafted for the goal and eventually we came out on top, despite the official's sabotage attempt, FIVE MINUTES?? It's a sign of a good team when we win against other teams whilst not playing brilliantly. Nice to see Stacy, Keelo and Ross back, Keeling in particular was effective and Ross held it together as usual in the defence. Can't wait 'til Chelmsford now!

A really good, well earned 3 points. Always going to be tough against a well drilled Woking - especially with the midfield so clogged up with 10 players, (our 3-5-2 against their 4-5-1).

We stayed patient, some great tactical substitutions by LD, and presto 3 points.

Plus point was Stacy Long, for his time on the pitch looked a class act. Cannot wait to see Quinn, DeBolla and Long together in the centre, with Keeling and Ricketts wide.

That sounds like a pretty good midfield C.G. but Coleman had another good game and I thought Slatts had the best game I have seen him play this season today, and of course we have yet to see the best of Anderson and Purcell.

It was good to see Stacy Long on the pitch and Keeling back in the side gives us more threat going forward, if we can just get DeBolla fit again we might start climbing this league.

Not our best performance, but the right, result. Without a doubt the officials left a lot to be desired, always two seconds behind the run of play. Some ridiculous off-sides given, and I dare say the Woking fans would say the same from their point of view. Ref was very lax, lots of shirt pulling and nothing said.

Good to see Keeling back in the side, and Long making a start, at long last ha ha! If we can get DeBolla fit there'll be no holding us. In saying that though, the hardest part is yet to come.

The weather has been brilliant for the first third of the season, but winter is on it's way, and that's when our start so far will make a difference. Winning games from now on, to keep up with or even, if possible, over take the teams above us is going to be even harder, especially with FA Cup and FA Trophy games to play. I'd rather have a play-off place at the end of the season, than had a good Cup run.

I take 3 points over fancy play any day. My only critiscm is that we are not wide enough. When Cronin has the ball virtually every player on the pitch was crammed into a 15 yard area on the left hand side. Personally I thought McCarthy was superb. Marshalled the back line fantastically and nothing was going to get passed him for love or money. Happy Days....

Come on you Fleet!!!!!

If we had a problem today, it was that our midfield 5 played a bit flat - ie, all in a line across the park.

It got much better after the substitutions, Keeling push on down the line - Long took up a more forward position, and Quinn dropped a bit deeper; at least that is my view of it.

And here is Wokings rather biased view on the game:

And their moment of the match WAS very funny!!

Made something of a change today that we got the run of the ball for the goal and that we scored with what was our only serious attempt on target, while the opposition missed a couple of presentable chances. Normally its the other way round.

2 closely matched sides, who basically cancelled each other out.

Other results once again reflected the open nature of the league this year - a week & a half ago, we were all upset at the result against a Stafford side who hadnt won for 10 games - since then they've gone on to beat both Woking & Exeter. A Dagenham team who had been flying crashed at home to Kidderminster & York fail to beat Tamworth. There will clearly be many twists & turns before the season finishes and one suspects everything will go right down to the last games of the season.

for me both teams cancelled each other out and woking obviously packed midfield to stop us playing, their only threat was long ball and flick on which is food and drink to our back line, opinel had poor game and keeling turned the game with one run, coleman did nothing wrong and looked to get forward with quinn holding the fort, one chance for charlie and 3 points and that was all that was in it between 2 even teams, my only gripe is with such a talented attacking 5 in macdonald, moore, coleman, slatter and keeling why do we keep launching the ball forward instead of playing a bit more football to feet????? particularly as slatter and coleman love to play off the front guys.
