Shock At Stour

Duffer

Midland Alliance promotion-chasers Stourbridge have been shocked by the news that Mark Serrell will be standing down as chairman with immediate effect.

Serrell has expressed a wish to spend more quality time with his family and currently has increased business commitments.

Serrell said: "After three years in the chair, I wish to be able to devote more time to my family. The position of chairman, whilst rewarding, is both demanding and time-consuming.

"The club is in a much more secure position than when I took on the role as chairman and hope that there may be people or parties who will be interested in carrying on the good work and help continue to take the club forward.

"I would like to thank the committee, supporters and everyone associated with the club for their backing and support over the last three years and wish everyone continued success."

Club spokeman Nigel Gregg said: "The news has obviously come as something of a surprise to us, but we fully understand and accept the reasons behind Mark''s decision.

"Mark, together with Ruth Hardie, have done a magnificent job of turning the fortunes of the club around with their leadership, application, business acumen and commitment.

"We would like to place on record our grateful thanks to Mark and Ruth and we hope we will continue to see them at matches in the future."
