ETFC Under 18`s

Recommended Posts

I thought Tony Corrigan's commentary below might be of interest:

'I am pleased to report that 4 years after starting the under 18 team with

Mike Smee that Enfield Town under 18`s are the North East League Champions

2006 / 07. It all came down to yesterdays game in a League clash between

Enfield Town who held a two point lead facing Maldon Town who were the only

unbeaten team in the any of the three leagues to decide the League

Championship.

A determined first half with Enfield Town showing their superiority and a

two goal lead with a brace of goals from the lightening pace of James

Ewington was soon forgotten as Maldon Town came back with two goals in the

first three minutes of the second half with speculative shots from 25 yards

each that hit the corners of the net and were unstoppable.

Lesser teams may have folded at this stage but Enfield Town kept their

composure, which was rewarded with a penalty when a Maldon Defender kicked

out at Robbie Carroll as he went to head the ball from an Enfield Town

corner. Captain Jack Chandler coolly stepped up to place the ball wide of

the keeper in the Maldon net to give us a well deserved 3-2 lead.

Maldon at this stage with substitutions now fielded three forwards to try

and snatch an equalizer. John Lane came on in the last few minutes to settle

the tie with his second kick of the match with a well placed shot in the

corner of the net following sustained pressure from Enfield Town around the

Maldon area.

Enfield Town do have one remaining match to play against Buntingford Town

but at this stage of the season are the only confirmed league winners of any

of the 3 leagues.

Once the league champions have been decided for the other two divisions

Enfield Town will play a round robin series of games to decide the ultimate

under 18 league champions'.

Looking at the league tables on the Eastern Junior Alliance League website, it appears that it is an understatement to say that Enfield Town are the only confirmed league winners at this stage of the season. The Central Division league table appears to show that any of Waltham Abbey, Leyton, Hornchurch, Dagenham & Redbridge, Romford or Redbridge could be champions, whilst the South West Division league table appears to show that any of Grays Athletic, Bowers & Pitsea, Canvey Island, Southend Manor or East Thurrock United could finish top.

Looking at the North East Division results grid, Enfield Town have a remarkable away record.

Congratulations!
