HARPENDEN Town slipped to defeat in their first home match of the new campaign on Tuesday.

The Molten Rothamsted Park outfit began well enough and striker Chris Gregory netted his second goal in a week to fire Town ahead.

Before half time, Steve Cornwell's side began to concede territory and they paid the price in the second half with two freak own goals from Mark Durkin. Cornwell said: "We started very brightly again, got 1-0 up again and then sat back and invited pressure and it was unfortunate that two own goals gave them the win. The first one, he has caught his foot on the ground and the ball has looped up over the ''keeper. Then the second one we were over-playing when the ball was there to clear and eventually it came across our box. The same player has gone to intercept it and our 'keeper was going the other way and it has dribbled over the line. He was doing what he should be doing so it was bad luck on his behalf but it shouldn't have got to that stage."
On Saturday Gregory gave Town a deserved lead at Cranfield United but they failed to go on and take the three points.

Gregory netted on 18 minutes as Harps played some excellent football only for Mark Keogh to level for the hosts before the break and the final score was 1-1. Manager Cornwell was frustrated his side did not go on and finish the job. He said: "We were superb in the first half and dominated the game but then we stopped playing and an error at the back gave them an easy goal. We seem unable to come out from half time and pick up the pace."

Harps are at home to New Bradwell St Peter on Saturday and will be looking to claim their first win of the campaign.

The attached possibly explains it, we could have another 'great one' on our hands by the sounds of it:
