My dictionery defines URCHIN, thus:

A SMALL MISCHIEVOUS CHILD: A POOR DIRTY RAGGED CHILD : A RAGGAMUFFIN

Archaic and Regional:- A HEDGEHOG !

Now that makes me think...........

right urchino....let's get back to the main issue.....now you've had you're little left wing rant......

(do try and get facts before you post.......there's a good chap......)

the issue that I posted was this....

is it legal to discriminate between men and women....

No.....

is it legal to discriminate between any minority and/or majority group.....

No.......

so tell me....is it legal to have men and women entrances .........

No.........

is it legal to advertise a vacancy for a particular gender.....

No.......

(newspapers will not accept them and given that we spend 4 million pounds a year on advertising...I would probably think that I am right.....)

so....why is it legal to place 'men only' and 'women only' signs on a mosque....

it is not.....it is a breach of the sexual discrimination laws.....fact.....

who will get nicked first...the mosque or the 'capitalist hyenas'.... in Essex.......

ha ha ha ha....any bets...... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

There exceptions you know even, in such a great institution of the NHS.
Part of national services frameworks/patient charters is the requirement for female only lounges, nary a mention of men only lounges.
"Positive discrimination" is a well spread phenomena around the country.

To discrimanate i agree is fundimentally wrong but i do not class having diffrent entrances as discrimanation if one is paved with gold and one resembles a sewer then that is discrimanation!

But if both entrances are the same then it is not discrimanating against women not men.......

We have a right to make minority groups abide our legal laws not our own moral ones but having different entrances is hardly the biggest crime in the world.I beleive in allowing religions to partake in their views! except if is against the law ie (female circumstition)!

Unclean women are the ones I like best. The dirtier the better, I say! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I think you will find that legislation on discrimation, both regarding gender and race, make specific reference to and attempts to alow for religious practice and indeed private sports and other clubs. I think it highly unlikely that the mosque you saw is breaking the law, which seems to be your objection.

Whether it is morally or ethically acceptable is a different matter and of course depends on one's own view, culture and beliefs. My own stance is actually anti-religion - all religion - and I do not believe that any religion, cult or faith should be above or excepted from the law, or even recognised in law. What any individual does in their spare time, or what they choose to believe in, is of course entirely their own business, no different to collecting stamps or railway engine numbers. No-one else, the state or any individual, is morally obliged to give such beliefs or ssuperstitions any credence or special exemption however.

Why anyone would WANT to have different entrances for different genders is beyond me, frankly, but if the place is effectively their own private club, and the men AND women genuinely and of their own free will (the tricky bit) want to go through different doors, well it's good news for the door industry and no skin off my nose.

Let the pubs open 11-11 on Sunday, I say!

Here's a point to ponder on sex and discrimination..

If girls can now wear trousers to school, why cant boys wear skirts !!

Rigid adherence to outdated r-scripture and poverty are the highest level risks the world faces in being devastated by world war(s)
Religeon was ever so with its ability to overcome democracy by brain washing
That much the simpler for the brain washers where the brains in question are held in either unrelenting poverty or over indulged middle class kids looking to do something/anything with their lives
The answers are simpler to explore than to put in place
To overcome poverty the rich countries work unselfishly with the poor countries in building the appropriate infrastructure for survival, some chance!!see if you are able to spot any intent by Blair,Bush or Chirac etc in the problems in Africa or Asia??
Middle class kids, easy get them sharing the toils of the poor and under privileged, Somehow get them to make a contribution via hard work (physical) but not for a week or two gain a commitment for a year or two of relentless graft in awful conditions and a minimum of 47/48 weeks a year and a minimum of ten hours a day
College education is wonderful, real life experience essential
So? why pick on poor little rich kids, Because much of the support for the brainwashers comes from educated but sadly inexperienced rich kids
Lifes realities become much easier to comprehend when constantly knackered
